Dwayne Smith
Coincidentally all hosts won their games. There was no lack of excitement in the last round games. The round ended with defeat of the leader and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked CD Castro (6-4) in Puerto Varas on Tuesday night. Visitors were rolled over by fifth ranked Aleman (5-5) 96-68. They dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to CD Castro's 32. They outrebounded CD Castro 49-27 including a 24-8 advantage in offensive rebounds. Aleman looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. 26 personal fouls committed by CD Castro helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Worth to mention a great performance of Jamaican-Canadian forward Dwayne Smith (198-89, college: G.Washington, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 16 rebounds and Colombian-Venezuelan center Luis Julio (201-80) who added 15 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. American Walter Baxley (193-84, college: Mars Hill) responded with 25 points and 4 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Aleman moved-up to fourth place, which they share with CDE Esp. Talca and AB Ancud. CD Castro at the other side still keeps top position with four games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Aleman is again looking forward to face league's leader CD Castro at home in the next round and it may be the game of the week. CD Castro will have a break next round.
Important game to mention about took place in Concepcion. Second ranked Universidad de Concepcion (6-4) saved a 1-point victory at home edging 4th ranked Puente Alto (4-6) 77-76 on Sunday evening. The winners were led by American center Steven Toyloy (203-87, college: Cincinnati) who scored that evening 17 points and 8 rebounds and Carlos Lauler supported him with 10 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Even a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds by American Rakim Brown (198-91, college: Humboldt St.) did not help to save the game for Puente Alto. Universidad de Concepcion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams. Puente Alto lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth place with six games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Valdivia. Second ranked host Deportivo Valdivia (6-4) defeated one of their biggest challengers AB Ancud (5-5) 91-79. It was a key game for the top position in the league. The best player for the winners was Khapri Alston who had a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds. Jesse Hardin produced 22 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the guests. AB Ancud's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Deportivo Valdivia keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams. Loser AB Ancud keeps the fourth place with five games lost. They share the position with CDE Esp. Talca and Puerto Varas. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Liga Nacional top team - Temuco (8-2) had no problems winning another game. This time they beat fifth ranked Espanol de Talca (5-5) 96-78. Americans were the main players on the court. Jovonni Shuler orchestrated the victory by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds. Temuco have an impressive eight-game winning streak. Newly promoted Temuco maintains first position with 8-2 record. Espanol de Talca at the other side dropped to the fourth place with five games lost. Temuco's next round opponent will be Universidad Catolica (#6) in Santiago where they are favorite.
Bottom-ranked Universidad Catolica (0-10) is still winless. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. This time they lost on the road their tenth consecutive match to third ranked Los Leones (7-3) 84-62 on Sunday evening. Worth to mention a great performance of Juan Zanotta who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 12 points and 11 assists. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Los Leones have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place. Loser Universidad Catolica still closes the standings with ten games lost. Los Leones will have a break next round. Universidad Catolica will play on the road against the league's leader Temuco (#1) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

CDU Concepcion - Puente Alto 77-76

Important game to mention about took place in Concepcion. Second ranked Universidad de Concepcion (6-4) saved a 1-point victory at home edging 4th ranked Puente Alto (4-6) 77-76 on Sunday evening. Universidad de Concepcion players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The winners were led by American center Steven Toyloy (203-87, college: Cincinnati) who scored that evening 17 points and 8 rebounds and international Carlos Lauler (190-96) supported him with 10 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. Even a double-double of 15 points and 13 rebounds by American Rakim Brown (198-91, college: Humboldt St.) did not help to save the game for Puente Alto. His fellow American import Aaron Cosby (190-92, college: W.Kentucky) added 20 points and 5 rebounds for the guests. Four Universidad de Concepcion and five Puente Alto players scored in double figures. Universidad de Concepcion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams. Puente Alto lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth place with six games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
