The round was rather attractive and full of interesting results. The round ended with defeat of the leader and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Top ranked Temuco (13-6) recorded its sixth loss on the court of sixth ranked Osorno Basquetbol on Saturday night. Visitors were defeated by Osorno Basquetbol 101-86. Osorno Basquetbol forced 22 Temuco turnovers. They shot the lights out from three sinking 13 long-distance shots on high 54.2 percentage. The best player for the winners was American forward Darnell Dodson (201-89, college: S.Mississippi) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds. The former international point guard Francisco Bravo (174-87) chipped in 15 points and 9 assists. American forward Abiodun Adegoke (203-91, college: Midwestern St.) produced a double-double by scoring 26 points and 12 rebounds for the guests. Osorno Basquetbol maintains sixth place with 7-11 record. Newly promoted Temuco still keeps top position with six games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
Sixth-ranked Universidad Catolica (1-16) made lots of trouble for third ranked Aleman (10-8) in Santiago. The visitors from Puerto Varas managed to secure only two-point victory 94-92. However their fans expected easier game. American-Nigerian Ikenna Mbamalu (191-91, college: La-Lafayette) orchestrated the victory by scoring 29 points. Ronald Cruces contributed with 14 points, 5 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals for the winners. American forward Gary Johnson (198-88, college: Texas) answered with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds for Universidad Catolica. Aleman maintains third place with 10-8 record having four points less than leader Las Animas. Universidad Catolica lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with 16 games lost. Aleman will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Universidad Catolica will play on the road against Puente Alto (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Los Leones moved-up to second place, which they share with CDU Concepcion and CD Castro. Deportivo Valdivia at the other side keeps the second position with five games lost. Los Leones will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Deportivo Valdivia will play against AB Ancud and hope to secure a win.

Host Las Animas (12-4) defeated guests from Concepcion (9-8) 77-63. The game was dominated by American players. Brandon Robinson nailed 23 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Universidad de Concepcion's coach tested eleven players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Las Animas have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They maintain first place with 12-4 record. Universidad de Concepcion at the other side keeps the second position with eight games lost. Las Animas' next round opponent will be CD Castro (#4) at home. Universidad de Concepcion will play against Espanol de Talca and hope to win that game.
The game in Talca was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked CD Castro (9-8) played at the court of 5th ranked Espanol de Talca (5-11). CD Castro managed to secure a 6-point victory 80-74 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was Walter Baxley who scored 28 points and 5 rebounds. CD Castro moved-up to second place, which they share with CDU Concepcion and Los Leones. Loser Espanol de Talca keeps the fifth position with 11 games lost. CD Castro will face league's leader Las Animas in Valdivia in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Espanol de Talca will play at home against the league's second-placed Universidad de Concepcion (#2) and hope to win that game.

In the last game of round 17 AB Ancud defeated Puente Alto in a road game 80-75.



Osorno - Temuco 101-86

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Quilpue. Third ranked Los Leones faced second-ranked Deportivo Valdivia. Host Los Leones (9-8) defeated guests from Valdivia (12-5) 107-90. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Deportivo Valdivia. Los Leones dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Deportivo Valdivia's 40. They outrebounded Deportivo Valdivia 40-26 including a 34-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Los Leones especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 55.6 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 26 assists. Dominican power forward Manuel Guzman (204-82, college: Bemidji St.) stepped up and scored 30 points and 8 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the winners and American point guard Scott Rodgers (191-87, college: Drexel) chipped in 13 points, 6 rebounds and 14 assists. American forward Khapri Alston (196-94, college: Midwestern St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds and the former international forward Claudio Naranjo (191-87) scored 12 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Four Espanol de Talca players scored in double figures. CD Castro moved-up to second place, which they share with CDU Concepcion and Los Leones. We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams when 4th placed Puente Alto (8-9) was defeated at home by fifth ranked AB Ancud (8-9) 80-75 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was American guard Jesse Hardin (188-93, college: Walsh) who scored 24 points. International guard Sebastian Suarez (193-91, college: Portland St.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 10 points and 10 rebounds. Four AB Ancud players scored in double figures. American forward Jerome Hill (198-94, college: Gardner-Webb, agency: Interperformances) produced 21 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international guard Antonio Pinedo (195-94) added 18 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the hosts. AB Ancud moved-up to fourth place, which they share with defeated Puente Alto. AB Ancud will face league's second-placed Deportivo Valdivia on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Puente Alto will play against Universidad Catolica and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
