American Forward Stephen Maxwell (201-F-1993) put on an amazing game in the last round for top-ranked CD Universidad de Concepcion, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 2.
The 31-year old player had a double-double of 32 points and 10 rebounds, while his team beat Ancud (#3, 1-1) 89-77. It allowed Univ.Concepcion to consolidate first place in the Chilean CUP. The season is still on an early stage, but Univ.Concepcion already had a very good start winning all 4 without losing a single one. Maxwell turned to be Univ.Concepcion's top player in his first season with the team. Former California State University Northridge star has very solid stats this year. Maxwell is in league's top in points (2nd best: 24.5ppg), rebounds (4th best: 12.0rpg) and averages impressive 73.9% FGP.
The second best player in last round's games was young American Derrick Woods (203-F-1996, agency: SLN) of Asociacion Basquetbol Ancud. Woods had a very good evening with a double-double of 27 points and 10 rebounds. Bad luck as Ancud lost that game 77-89 to (). The season is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let's wait for the next round. Woods is a newcomer at Ancud and despite he is not a team leader yet, every game he becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often.
Third on the list of top players last round was American center Chris Ware (203-C-1989) of Club Deportivo Valdivia (#6). Ware scored 18 points and grabbed 13 rebounds (!!!). Despite Ware's great performance the Valdivia lost 72-78 to Las Animas (#4, 1-2). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. Valdivia can only dream about fighting for top spots in South. They have awful season losing so far all 3 games. Too bad for Ware he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. The season just started for Ware as he played only first game. But it already looks like he can be team's leader.
Other top performing players last week:
4. Domont'a Wright (202-F/C-1999) of Colo Colo - 22 points and 15 rebounds
5. Diego Silva (186-PG-1993) of Univ.Concepcion - 15 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists
6. Alvaro Pena (197-SG-1995) of Ancud - 22 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists
7. Jordan Bell (203-F-1998) of Los Leones - 12 points, 14 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Erik Carrasco (181-G-1983) of Valdivia - 12 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists
9. Pedro Leopoldino (206-C-1998) of Univ.Catolica - 18 points, 14 rebounds and 3 assists
10. Juan Aguayo (2003) of Univ.Catolica - 14 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists
The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3*(REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4*(2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3*(2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3*(3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
