PROFESSIONAL BASKETBALL DIVISION STATEMENT - Nov 9, 2017

The Colombian Basketball Professional Division keeps struggling to find a sponsor for his championship, after its last meeting a press release gives the following statement.

1-The next Colombian professional championship has been scheduled to start on August 2018, and is projected to have a league expansion to 10 teams.

2-A Development league will born in the first semester of the 2018, projected to start between the months of March or April, not determined yet how many teams or further details about it.

3-The PBD confirms its commitment with the national team and will adjust its schedule to the fit with the FIBA calendar

Beyond the lines of the release we can take some conclusions:
The PBD is still far to get a sponsorship and the commitment of the clubs looks not strong enough to move forward with two short championships each yet, but the teams approved to run a 4 or 5 months tournament each year, including ten teams.
The development league has been mentioned from a time ago, but beyond the mention in the press release there is not a clear sign of commitment of the PBD with this project, just take a look to the pro clubs participating in the Federation Competitions and will not find more than three clubs sending young teams, and just one; not one that uses to participate in the professional league, sends young teams often to the national championships.
The league statement declares a commitment with the Federation and the National Team but the PBD failed to the first challenge not having actually a competition, leaving the players out of game shape to face to world championship qualifiers, so sounds like empty words.
The trust of the Colombian basketball fans in the PBD is actually falling, the PBD after the loss of its first sponsor has been failing to fill its commitment.
