LPB Round 12: Fast Break edges Piratas by three points

The most exciting game of round 12 in the LPB took place in Bogota. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of 4th ranked Piratas (5-5) to fifth ranked Fast Break (4-6) 82-79 on Wednesday evening. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Piratas. They outrebounded Piratas 43-31 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. 24 personal fouls committed by Piratas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was American guard Dermaine Crockrell (185-89, college: Bemidji St.) who had a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds. T Cobos chipped in 20 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Venezuelan guard Yohanner Sifontes (192-95) who recorded 22 points and 4 assists. Fast Break maintains fifth position with 4-6 record, which they share with Cimarrones. Piratas at the other side dropped to the third place with five games lost. They share the position with Bucaros. Fast Break is looking forward to face higher ranked Bucaros (#4) in Bucaramanga in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Piratas will play at home against Cimarrones and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Academia (7-5) against sixth ranked Bucaros (5-5) on Wednesday night. Visiting Academia was defeated by Bucaros in Bucaramanga 86-68. It was a good game for American forward Lamar Roberson (203-86, college: La-Lafayette) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 17 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists. Leandro Taboada contributed with 20 points and 5 assists for the winners. American point guard Frank Agholor (183, college: York, NE) replied with 19 points and 9 rebounds for Academia. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Bucaros moved-up to third place, which they share with Piratas. Academia at the other side keeps the second position with five games lost. Bucaros will play against Fast Break (#6) in Bogota in the next round. Academia will have a break next round.

Worth to mention a great performance of Qiydar Davis who helped to win the game recording 30 points and 5 rebounds. The best for the losing side was Miguel Bolivar with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Titanes have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 8-2 record. Cimarrones lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the fifth place with six games lost. They share the position with Fast Break. Titanes will meet bottom-ranked Warriors (#7) in the next round where they are favorite. Cimarrones will play against Piratas in Bogota and it may be a tough game between close rivals.



Piratas - Fast Break 79-82
