Here is the weekly review of the top performing Colombian players, who play currently abroad.
#1. This week's number one is former international forward
Andres Ibarguen (196-96, currently plays in NCAA2). He could not help the
Angelo State University (15-7) in their last game. Despite Ibarguen's very good performance the Angelo State University lost
77-87 on the road to the West Texas A&M University.
He had a double-double by scoring 23 points and getting 19 rebounds in 33 minutes on the court.
The Regular Season already ended in the NCAA2.
Ibarguen has relatively good stats this year: 14.3ppg, 10.2rpg, 2FGP: 68.7%(145-211) and FT: 63.8% in 26 games he played so far.
He played for the Colombian senior national team four years ago.
#2. Second place goes to an international point guard
Hansel Atencia (178-97, agency:
Players Group, college:
Master's, currently plays in Iceland). He was not able to help one of league's weakest teams
Thor AK (5-15) in their last game. Despite Atencia's very good performance Thor AK lost
79-87 at home to the higher-ranked (#10) Valur.
He was the second best scorer with 18 points. Atencia also added 4 passes in 32 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only his third season in pro basketball. It was Thor AK's fifth consecutive loss in a row.
There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical.
It's Atencia's first year with the team.
Atencia has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 17.7ppg, 2.6rpg, 5.6apg, 2.0spg, 2FGP: 46.3%, 3FGP: 29.9% and FT: 85.1% in 20 games.
Atencia has a dual citizenship: Spanish and Colombian.
He is in the roster of the Colombian senior national team.
#3. The Colombian player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced international power forward
Juan Palacios-Tello (206-85, currently plays in Spain). Palacios-Tello was not able to secure a victory for one of league's weakest teams
Movil Estudiantes in their game against FC Barcelona (19-4) in the Spanish Liga Endesa. His contribution was not very remarkable in Sunday's game.
Palacios-Tello scored only 3 points.
His team was defeated
74-67 in Barcelona by the leading FC Barcelona.
Palacios-Tello's overall stats this season are: 8.0ppg, 3.6rpg, 2FGP: 43.0%, 3FGP: 25.0% and FT: 51.4%.
He is another player who holds two passports: Colombian and Spanish.
Ex-Guerreros de Bogota player is also a member of the Colombian senior national team.
#4. Power forward
Jhan Paul Mejia (208-94, college:
Charleston, currently plays in Spain) couldn't help
Villarrobledo (8-17) in their game against Zornotza (9-16) in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division).
He scored 5 points.
The tenth-placed Villarrobledo (8-17) was edged
92-89 in Amorebieta-Echano by the lower-ranked Zornotza (#11) in the West group.
Mejia's overall stats this season are: 5.6ppg and 3.0rpg.
Similarly like Palacios-Tello and Atencia above He has both Colombian and Spanish nationalities.
Mejia used to play for the Colombian national team
back in 2018.
The list of other players, who all have Colombian passport but never been selected to any of Colombian national teams: #1. Jaime Echenique (211-C, currently plays college basketball in the States) led
Wichita St. to an easy victory against the The University of Tulsa (12-4) crushing them
79-57 in the NCAA last Sunday.
Echenique scored 13 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and made 2 blocks.
The Wichita State University has 9-6 conference record this season.
The Regular Season already ended in the NCAA.
This year Echenique has relatively solid stats: 11.3ppg, 7.1rpg and 1.6bpg.
#2. Juan Cardenas (201-F-97, currently studies in the States), who plays in the NCAA could not help the
Bryant (6-10) to beat the St. Francis University (PA) (13-4).
Cardenas recorded 6 points, 6 rebounds and 2 blocks in 20 minutes.
The Bryant was crushed
87-61 at home by the St. Francis University (PA).
The Regular Season already ended in the NCAA.
This year Cardenas' overall stats are: 7.5ppg and 3.7rpg in 28 games he played so far.
#3. Ivan Losada (185-SG-96, currently plays in Spain) was not able to help
PBB in their game against Univ.Valladolid (7-13) in the Spanish EBA (fourth division). He cannot count it as his best performance.
Losada scored only 2 points in 19 minutes.
PBB (#4) lost
53-62 on the road to the much lower-ranked (#11) Univ.Valladolid in the Group A-B.
This year Losada's overall stats are: 4.5ppg and 1.3rpg in 15 games.
