LPB Round 1: Condores lose to Titanes

The Regular Season in LPB just started. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Condores in Barranquilla on Wednesday night. Visitors were rolled over by Titanes 107-65. Dominican-Puerto Rican forward Jonathan Rodriguez (196-87, college: Campbell) stepped up and scored 28 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and the former international power forward Juan Palacios-Tello (206-85) chipped in 17 points and 9 rebounds. Titanes' coach felt very confident that he used 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side international Alvaro Pena (197-95) responded with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds. Titanes is looking forward to face Storm in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Condores will play against Bucaros and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very significant was Storm's just 2-point road victory against Bucaros 99-97. Bucaros were very close to get their first win. But it seems they have to wait a little bit longer. American center Donte Greene (208-88, college: Syracuse) nailed 29 points and 4 assists for the winning side and Michael Watkins accounted for 20 points and 14 rebounds. Canadian forward Tyrrel Tate (198-92, college: Fayetteville St.) came up with 23 points and 8 rebounds for Bucaros in the defeat. Storm will play against Titanes in Barranquilla in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Bucaros will play on the road against Condores in Cundinamarca and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Quite upsetting was Piratas' home defeat in a game versus Trigrillos who edged hosts 96-94. Piratas were very close to get their first win. But it seems they have to wait a little bit longer. Americans were the main players on the court. Wesley Van-Beck fired a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds for the winners. Trigrillos' coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. John A. Thomas produced 23 points and 8 rebounds for lost side. Trigrillos will meet at home Team Cali in the next round. Piratas will play against Sabios in Manizales and hope to win that game.

Titanes - Condores 107-65

Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Storm will play against Titanes in Barranquilla in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Bucaros will play on the road against Condores in Cundinamarca and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

They outrebounded Piratas 37-25 including 29 on the defensive glass. Americans were the main players on the court. Forward Wesley Van-Beck (191-96, college: Houston) fired a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds for the winners. Point guard Jamaal Smith (176-85, college: N.Mexico) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Trigrillos' coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Center John A. Thomas (200-82, college: Columbus St.) produced 23 points and 8 rebounds and forward Brandon Givens (198-87, college: NC-Wesleyan) added 23 points respectively for lost side. Four Trigrillos and five Piratas players scored in double figures. Trigrillos will meet at home Team Cali in the next round. Piratas will play against Sabios in Manizales and hope to win that game.
