LPB Round 4: Sabios lose their first game against Titanes- October 22, 2020

Piratas - Condores 91-100 Bottom-ranked Piratas (0-3) is still winless. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their third consecutive match to fifth ranked Condores (2-2) 100-91 on Tuesday evening. Americans were the main players on the court. Brandon Hollins (201-0, college: Portland St.) fired a double-double by scoring 28 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Guard Chaz Glotta (185-95, college: Maryville, MO) chipped in 23 points and 4 assists. Glotta is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Condores' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Swingman Siaan Rojas (201-96, college: WWU) produced 21 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists and forward Brandon Givens (198-87, college: NC-Wesleyan) added 25 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Five Condores and four Piratas players scored in double figures. Condores moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Storm. Loser Piratas still closes the standings with three games lost. Condores will meet at home Storm (#5) in the next round. Piratas will play against Team Cali and look forward to get finally their first victory. Visiting Storm was defeated by Team Cali in 77-64. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The winners were led by the former international forward Stalin Ortiz (190-81, college: Valpo) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 21 points and 11 rebounds and center Jhon Hernandez (208-84) supported him with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Five Team Cali players scored in double figures. Even a double-double of 16 points and 15 rebounds by American forward Michael Watkins (206-95, college: Penn St.) did not help to save the game for Storm. Dominican forward Juan-Miguel Suero (196-93) added 22 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. Storm's coach rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Team Cali moved-up to second place, which they share with Bucaros. Storm at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the fourth position with two games lost. They share it with Condores. Team Cali will play against bottom-ranked Piratas (#8) in Bogota in the next round where they are favorite. Storm will play on the road against Condores (#4) in Cundinamarca and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Fifth ranked Bucaros (2-1) played at the court of 6th ranked Trigrillos (1-3). Bucaros managed to secure a 9-point victory 107-98. Bucaros made 27-of-31 charity shots (87.1 percent) during the game. 24 personal fouls committed by Trigrillos helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a very good performance for American power forward Anthony Young (200-89, college: KWC) who helped to win the game recording 40 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds. Dominican point guard Adris De-Leon (180-84, college: EWU) contributed with 22 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. American center Chris Ware (203-89, college: Indiana Tech) replied with 19 points and 9 rebounds and his fellow American import point guard Jamaal Smith (176-85, college: N.Mexico) added 18 points and 8 assists in the effort for Trigrillos. Four Bucaros and five Trigrillos players scored in double figures. Bucaros moved-up to second place, which they share with Team Cali. Trigrillos lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keep the sixth position with three games lost. Bucaros' next round opponent will be league's leader Titanes in Barranquilla and it will be for sure the game of the week. Trigrillos will play at home against Sabios (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Hosts were defeated by Titanes (4-0) 88-75. Titanes dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Sabios' 28 and made 21-of-27 free shots (77.8 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Sabios 45-30 including 19 on the offensive glass. Worth to mention a great performance of Dominican center Luis Santos (203-94, college: St.Louis) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 9 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and the former international power forward Juan Palacios-Tello (206-85) who added 11 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. Five Titanes players scored in double figures. Titanes' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side American guard John Merchant (187-89, college: Dowling) responded with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds and his fellow American import Jovonni Shuler (198-87, college: SSU) scored 17 points. Titanes have a solid four-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 4-0 record. Newly promoted Sabios still closes the standings with one game lost. Titanes are looking forward to face league's second-placed Bucaros in Bucaramanga in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Sabios will play against Trigrillos (#6) and hope to get finally their first victory.
