LPB Round 5: Titanes beat Bucaros in the most crucial game of the week

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Bucaramanga. Leader Titanes faced 4th placed Bucaros. Guests from Barranquilla (5-0) defeated host Bucaros (2-2) 97-93. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Bucaros. They outrebounded Bucaros 46-30 including a 18-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Dominican-Puerto Rican forward Jonathan Rodriguez (196-87, college: Campbell) who scored 24 points and 7 rebounds. The former international Tonny Trocha-Morelos (208-94, college: Texas A&M) chipped in 23 points and 9 rebounds. Titanes' coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Dominican point guard Adris De-Leon (180-84, college: EWU) produced 21 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists for the hosts. Undefeated Titanes have an impressive series of five victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 5-0 record. Bucaros at the other side keep the fourth position with two games lost. Titanes are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Piratas (#8) in Bogota in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Bucaros will play against the league's second-placed Team Cali (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Bottom-ranked Piratas (0-4) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 76-68 loss to third ranked Team Cali (3-1) in . But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. International Michaell Jackson (190-87) orchestrated the victory by scoring 29 points and 8 rebounds. Scott Cutley contributed with 17 points, 16 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American swingman Siaan Rojas (201-96, college: WWU) answered with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists for Piratas. Team Cali moved-up to second place. Piratas lost their fourth game in a row. They still close the standings with four games lost. Team Cali will play against Bucaros (#4) in Bucaramanga in the next round. Piratas will play at home against the league's leader Titanes (#1) and hope to get finally their first victory.

The game was dominated by American players. Nick King stepped up and scored 39 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds for the winners. John Merchant responded with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 10 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Trigrillos moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Storm. Sabios at the other side, also newcomer in the league, still closes the standings with two games lost. Trigrillos will meet at home Storm (#5) in the next round. Sabios will play against Condores and look forward to get finally their first victory.

In the last game of round 5 Storm were defeated by Condores in Cundinamarca 111-102.

Condores - Storm 111-102

Everything could happen in Cundinamarca at the game between two tied teams. Both fourth ranked Condores and 5th ranked Storm had identical 2-2 record. This time Condores used a home court advantage and beat the opponent from 111-102 on Thursday night. Condores made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. American center Malik Wineglass (203-0, college: Harris-Stowe St.) stepped up and scored 21 points and 9 rebounds for the winners and his fellow American import Brandon Hollins (201-0, college: Portland St.) chipped in 20 points and 9 rebounds. American center Donte Greene (208-88, college: Syracuse) responded with 36 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 4 blocks and Dominican forward Juan-Miguel Suero (196-93) scored 22 points and 5 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The victory was the third consecutive win for Condores. They moved-up to third place. Storm at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the fifth position with three games lost. They share it with Trigrillos. Condores will meet Sabios (#7) in the next round. Storm will play against Trigrillos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
