LPB Round 9: Condores beat Bucaros by three after a very close game

The most exciting game of round 9 in the LPB took place in Bucaramanga. This derby game ended with only three-point home defeat of second-best Bucaros (5-3) to sixth ranked Condores (4-5) 94-91 on Sunday evening. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Bucaros. They outrebounded Bucaros 40-27 including 27 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for international Alvaro Pena (197-95) who led his team to a victory with 24 points and 9 rebounds. The former international guard Andres Salazar (175-97) contributed with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Dominican point guard Adris De-Leon (180-84, college: EWU) answered with 22 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for Bucaros. Condores moved-up to fifth place. Bucaros at the other side keep the second position with three games lost. Condores are looking forward to face higher ranked Team Cali (#4) on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Bucaros will play against Sabios in Manizales and are hoping to win this game.
Important game to mention about took place in Bogota. Seventh ranked Sabios (3-3) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging bottom-ranked Piratas (0-8) 92-89 on Saturday evening. American players dominated the game. Jovonni Shuler (198-87, college: SSU) stepped up and scored 27 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and John Merchant chipped in 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Sabios' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was swingman Siaan Rojas (201-96, college: WWU) with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists. Sabios moved-up to sixth place. Piratas at the other side still closes the standings with eight games lost. Sabios will play against league's second-placed Bucaros in Bucaramanga in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Piratas will play against Storm (#7) and hope to get finally their first victory.
Very important is a home loss of third ranked Team Cali (4-4) against fourth ranked Trigrillos (5-4) on Saturday night. Host Team Cali was defeated by Trigrillos in a tough game in Cali 68-72. Chris Ware nailed 15 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Trigrillos' coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. Jhon Hernandez came up with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds for Team Cali in the defeat. Trigrillos have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to third place. Team Cali at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the fourth position with four games lost. Trigrillos will meet at home league's leader Titanes in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Team Cali will play against Condores and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
LPB top team - Titanes (9-0) added another victory to their record. This time they beat seventh ranked Storm (3-6) in Barranquilla 82-74. The best player for the winners was Jonathan Rodriguez who scored 25 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated Titanes have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 9-0 record. Storm lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the seventh position with six games lost. Titanes' next round opponent will be Trigrillos (#3) in Medellin, which may be the game of the day. Storm will play on the road against Piratas (#8) in Bogota and it may be a tough game between close rivals.



Piratas - Sabios 89-92

Important game to mention about took place in Bogota. Seventh ranked Sabios (3-3) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging bottom-ranked Piratas (0-8) 92-89 on Saturday evening. American players dominated the game. Jovonni Shuler (198-87, college: SSU) stepped up and scored 27 points and 6 rebounds for the winners and guard John Merchant (187-89, college: Dowling) chipped in 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists. Shuler is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Sabios' coach allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. The best for the losing side was swingman Siaan Rojas (201-96, college: WWU) with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 9 assists and forward Brandon Givens (198-87, college: NC-Wesleyan) scored 27 points. Four Sabios and five Piratas players scored in double figures. Sabios moved-up to sixth place. Piratas at the other side still closes the standings with eight games lost. Sabios will play against league's second-placed Bucaros in Bucaramanga in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Piratas will play against Storm (#7) and hope to get finally their first victory.

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Team Cali (4-4) against fourth ranked Trigrillos (5-4) on Saturday night. Host Team Cali was defeated by Trigrillos in a tough game in Cali 68-72. Trigrillos made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. Trigrillos outrebounded Team Cali 40-29 including a 34-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Trigrillos made 10 blocks. American center Chris Ware (203-89, college: Indiana Tech) nailed 15 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side and his fellow American import point guard Jamaal Smith (176-85, college: N.Mexico) accounted for 11 points and 7 rebounds. Four Trigrillos players scored in double figures. Trigrillos' coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. LPB top team - Titanes (9-0) added another victory to their record. This time they beat seventh ranked Storm (3-6) in Barranquilla 82-74. They outrebounded Storm 48-30 including 16 on the offensive glass. Titanes players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The best player for the winners was Dominican-Puerto Rican forward Jonathan Rodriguez (196-87, college: Campbell) who scored 25 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. The former international Tonny Trocha-Morelos (208-94, college: Texas A&M) chipped in 19 points, 6 rebounds and 4 blocks. At the other side the best for losing team was Dominican forward Jose Familia (201-98) who recorded a double-double by scoring 25 points and 12 rebounds and Dominican forward Juan-Miguel Suero (196-93) added 14 points respectively.
