LPB Round 10: Trigrillos lose to Titanes in the game between Top 4 teams

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The game between Top Four teams took place in Medellin. 3rd ranked host Trigrillos (5-5) were smashed by top-ranked Titanes (10-0) 95-64. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Trigrillos. Titanes forced 20 Trigrillos turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Dominican-Puerto Rican forward Jonathan Rodriguez (196-87, college: Campbell) scored 20 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the former international power forward Juan Palacios-Tello (206-85) chipped in 12 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists during the contest. At the losing side American forward Nick King (201-95, college: MTSU) responded with 24 points and 5 rebounds. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated Titanes have an impressive ten-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 10-0 record. Newly promoted Trigrillos dropped to the fourth place with five games lost. Titanes are looking forward to face Sabios (#6) in Manizales in the next round where they are favorite. Trigrillos will play on the road against the league's second-placed Bucaros in Bucaramanga and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Piratas has finally registered their first victory this season after eight consecutive losses. They used home court advantage to defeat Storm (3-7) 110-91. American forward Brandon Givens (198-87, college: NC-Wesleyan) notched 50 points (!!!) (on 17-of-21 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and Siaan Rojas supported him with 7 points, 8 rebounds and 14 assists. Even 17 points and 7 rebounds by international power forward Luis Almanza (196-91) did not help to save the game for Storm. Storm's coach rotated twelve players seeing no chance for a win. Piratas maintains eighth position with 1-8 record. It was Storm's fourth loss in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the seventh place with seven games lost. Piratas will play against higher ranked Condores (#5) in Cundinamarca in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Storm will play at home against Team Cali and hopes to get back on the winning track.
The game in Manizales was also quite interesting. Second ranked Bucaros (6-3) played at the court of 6th ranked Sabios (3-4). Bucaros managed to secure a 6-point victory 87-81 on Monday. Yocsy Colina fired 21 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. John Merchant produced a double-double by scoring 25 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists for lost side. Sabios' coach tested ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Bucaros maintains second position with 6-3 record having five points less than leader Titanes. Newly promoted Sabios keep the sixth place with four games lost. Bucaros will meet at home Trigrillos (#4) in the next round. Sabios will play against the league's leader Titanes in Barranquilla and hope to secure a win.

In the last game of round 10 Condores lost to Team Cali on the opponent's court 71-85.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 14 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists by Michaell Jackson of Team Cali.



Sabios - Bucaros 81-87

The game in Manizales was also quite interesting. Second ranked Bucaros (6-3) played at the court of 6th ranked Sabios (3-4). Bucaros managed to secure a 6-point victory 87-81 on Monday. Bucaros made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. Yocsy Colina (187-90) fired 21 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. American center Tyler Harris (208-93, college: Auburn, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 16 points and 8 rebounds. Harris is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American guard John Merchant (187-89, college: Dowling) produced a double-double by scoring 25 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists and his fellow American import forward Maurice Jones (199-95, college: NW Nazarene) added 17 points respectively for lost side. Five Bucaros and four Sabios players scored in double figures. Sabios' coach tested ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Bucaros maintains second position with 6-3 record having five points less than leader Titanes. Newly promoted Sabios keep the sixth place with four games lost. Team Cali - Condores 85-71

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 5th ranked Condores' (4-6) road loss to fourth ranked Team Cali (5-4) 71-85 on Tuesday. Team Cali looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Team Cali made 7 blocks. International Michaell Jackson (190-87) fired a double-double by scoring 14 points, 11 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners. Italian-Argentinian guard Juan-Pablo Cantero (188-82) chipped in 21 points (perfect from downtown making all six shots !!!). Five Team Cali players scored in double figures. American center Malik Wineglass (203-0, college: Harris-Stowe St.) produced a double-double by scoring 21 points and 13 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Chaz Glotta (185-95, college: Maryville, MO) added 17 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Condores' coach let to play ten players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Team Cali moved-up to third place. Condores at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keep the fifth position with six games lost. Team Cali will meet Storm (#7) in the next round. Condores will play against Piratas and hope to secure a win.
