LPB Round 11: Trigrillos edge Bucaros by one point

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most exciting game of round 11 in the LPB took place in Bucaramanga. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of second-ranked Bucaros (6-4) to fourth ranked Trigrillos (6-5) 87-86 on Wednesday evening. Trigrillos shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. The best player for the winners was American forward Nick King (201-95, college: MTSU) who scored 29 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. His fellow American import forward Roderick Lawrence (196-93, college: Campbellsville) chipped in 22 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists. American power forward Anthony Young (200-89, college: KWC) produced 22 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the hosts. Newly promoted Trigrillos maintains fourth place with 6-5 record. Bucaros at the other side keep the second position with four games lost. They share it with Team Cali. Trigrillos are looking forward to face Sabios (#6) in Manizales in the next round. Bucaros will play on the road against the league's leader Titanes (#1) in Barranquilla and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Undefeated leader Titanes delivered the eleventh consecutive victory. This time they beat 6th ranked Sabios (3-5) 99-84 in Barranquilla. Dominican-Puerto Rican forward Jonathan Rodriguez (196-87, college: Campbell) orchestrated the victory by scoring 29 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. Juan Palacios-Tello contributed with 18 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American guard John Merchant (187-89, college: Dowling) answered with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for Sabios. Sabios' coach rotated eleven players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated Titanes (11-0) have an impressive series of eleven victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with a perfect record of 11 victories in a row. Newly promoted Sabios keep the sixth position with five games lost. Titanes will play against league's second-placed Bucaros in Bucaramanga in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Sabios will play at home against Trigrillos (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Team Cali (6-4) played at the court of 7th ranked Storm (3-8). Team Cali defeated Storm 85-73 on Thursday. It was a great evening for Michaell Jackson who led his team to a victory scoring 25 points. Jose Familia responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 16 rebounds. Team Cali moved-up to second place, which they share with Bucaros. Storm lost their fifth game in a row. Storm at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the seventh position with eight games lost. Team Cali will meet bottom-ranked Piratas (#8) in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Storm will play against Condores and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

In the last game of round 11 bottom-ranked Piratas was defeated by Condores in Cundinamarca 102-98.



Bucaros - Trigrillos 86-87

Titanes - Sabios 99-84

Undefeated leader Titanes delivered the eleventh consecutive victory. This time they beat 6th ranked Sabios (3-5) 99-84 in Barranquilla. Titanes had a 36-25 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Titanes especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 23 assists. Dominican-Puerto Rican forward Jonathan Rodriguez (196-87, college: Campbell) orchestrated the victory by scoring 29 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists. The former international power forward Juan Palacios-Tello (206-85) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 13 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. American guard John Merchant (187-89, college: Dowling) answered with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists and the other American import forward Maurice Jones (199-95, college: NW Nazarene) added 16 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Sabios. Condores - Piratas 102-98

There was no surprise in Cundinamarca where 8th ranked Piratas (1-9) were defeated by fifth ranked Condores (5-6) 102-98 on Thursday. Condores made 20-of-24 free shots (83.3 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 52.2 percentage. The game was dominated by American players. It was a great evening for power forward DeMarco Owens (203-96, college: Montevallo) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 26 points and 11 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). Center Malik Wineglass (203-0, college: Harris-Stowe St.) helped adding 25 points and 12 rebounds. Owens is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Condores' coach used an eleven-player rotation in such tough game. Forward Brandon Givens (198-87, college: NC-Wesleyan) responded with 37 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 7 assists and swingman Siaan Rojas (201-96, college: WWU) scored 23 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Newly promoted Condores maintains fifth place with 5-6 record. Loser Piratas stay at the bottom position with nine games lost. Condores will meet Storm (#7) in the next round. Piratas will play against Team Cali and hope to win that game.

Team Cali looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a great evening for international Michaell Jackson (190-87) who led his team to a victory scoring 25 points. Italian forward Alexis Elsener (196-88, agency: Interperformances) helped adding 13 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists. Elsener is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Five Team Cali players scored in double figures. Dominican forward Jose Familia (201-98) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 16 rebounds and Dominican forward Juan-Miguel Suero (196-93) scored 21 points and 7 rebounds. Team Cali moved-up to second place, which they share with Bucaros. Storm lost their fifth game in a row.
