LPB Round 12: Titanes defeat Bucaros in the game between Top 4 teams- November 8, 2020

Sabios - Trigrillos 95-80 The game in Manizales was also worth to mention about. 4th ranked Trigrillos (6-6) played at the court of sixth ranked Sabios (4-5). Sabios defeated Trigrillos 95-80. Sabios forced 19 Trigrillos turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 22 assists. American players dominated the game. Worth to mention a great performance of guard John Merchant (187-89, college: Dowling) who helped to win the game recording 27 points, 7 rebounds and 7 assists and Jovonni Shuler (198-87, college: SSU) who added 23 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists during the contest. Shuler is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Sabios players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Nick King (201-95, college: MTSU) with 22 points and 5 rebounds (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and center Chris Ware (203-89, college: Indiana Tech) scored 19 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Newly promoted Sabios maintains sixth position with 4-5 record. Trigrillos at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keep the fourth place with six games lost. Sabios will play against higher ranked Condores (#5) in Cundinamarca in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Trigrillos will play against Storm and hope to get back on the winning track. Top-ranked Titanes managed to get a 4-point victory 96-92. Titanes outrebounded Bucaros 39-25 including 25 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for the former international power forward Juan Palacios-Tello (206-85) who led his team to a victory with 24 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Dominican-Puerto Rican forward Jonathan Rodriguez (196-87, college: Campbell) contributed with 15 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Canadian forward Tyrrel Tate (198-92, college: Fayetteville St.) replied with 33 points (!!!) (on 11-of-13 shooting from the field) and naturalized Venezuelan Jackson Zapata (198-85) added 15 points (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) in the effort for Bucaros. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Titanes have an impressive 12-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 12-0 record. Bucaros at the other side dropped to the third place with five games lost. Titanes are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Piratas (#8) in Bogota in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Bucaros will play at home against the league's second-placed Team Cali (#2) and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Storm managed to secure a 5-point victory 92-87 on Saturday. Storm dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Condores' 36. The winners were led by international power forward Luis Almanza (196-91) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds and Dominican forward Jose Familia (201-98) supported him with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Even a double-double of 18 points, 14 rebounds and 4 assists by American power forward DeMarco Owens (203-96, college: Montevallo) did not help to save the game for Condores. His fellow American import center Malik Wineglass (203-0, college: Harris-Stowe St.) added 20 points and 8 rebounds. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Condores' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Newly promoted Storm maintains seventh position with 4-8 record. Condores at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keep the fifth place with seven games lost. Storm will meet at home higher ranked Trigrillos (#4) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Condores will play against Sabios and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. The best player for the winners was international Michaell Jackson (190-87) who scored 20 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. The former international forward Stalin Ortiz (190-81, college: Valpo) chipped in 22 points and 4 assists. Team Cali's coach felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was American swingman Siaan Rojas (201-96, college: WWU) who recorded 15 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists and his fellow American import center John-A Thomas (200-82, college: Columbus St.) added 14 points respectively. Five Team Cali and four Piratas players scored in double figures. Team Cali have a solid three-game winning streak. Newly promoted Team Cali maintains second position with 7-4 record having six points less than leader Titanes. Piratas at the other side stay at the bottom place with ten games lost. Team Cali's next round opponent will be Bucaros (#3) in Bucaramanga, which may be the game of the day.
