LPB Round 13: Storm defeat Trigrillos in the closest game of the week

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of 4th placed Trigrillos (6-7) to seventh ranked Storm (5-8) 101-99 on Sunday evening. Storm forced 22 Trigrillos turnovers. Strangely Trigrillos outrebounded Storm 48-36 including a 35-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. Dominican forward Jose Familia (201-98) stepped up and scored 33 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds for the winners and American Jaelyn Johnson-Coston (198-93, college: FMU) chipped in 26 points and 7 rebounds. At the losing side American forward Nick King (201-95, college: MTSU) responded with 26 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists. Storm moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Condores. Trigrillos at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keep the fourth position with seven games lost. Storm is looking forward to face higher ranked Sabios (#5) in Manizales in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Trigrillos will play at home against Condores and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Important game to mention about took place in Cundinamarca. Sixth ranked Sabios (5-5) saved a 3-point victory on the road edging 5th ranked Condores (5-8) 78-75 in the game for the fifth place. Americans were the main players on the court. Forward Maurice Jones (199-95, college: NW Nazarene) nailed 18 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side and Jovonni Shuler accounted for 14 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Center Malik Wineglass (203-93, college: Harris-Stowe St.) came up with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 12 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws) for Condores in the defeat. Condores' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Sabios moved-up to fifth place. Condores at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the sixth position with eight games lost. They share it with Storm. Sabios will play against Storm (#7) in the next round. Condores will play against Trigrillos in Medellin and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Michaell Jackson fired 27 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals for the winners. Jair Jaimes produced 9 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Team Cali have a solid series of four victories in a row. Newly promoted Team Cali maintains second place with 8-4 record having six points less than leader Titanes. Bucaros lost third consecutive game. They keep the third position with six games lost. Team Cali will meet at home league's leader Titanes in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Bucaros will play against Piratas in Bogota and hope to secure a win.
LPB top team - Titanes (13-0) managed to deliver another win. This time they beat eighth ranked Piratas (1-11) in Barranquilla 106-91. Worth to mention a great performance of Luis Santos who helped to win the game recording 19 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Undefeated Titanes have an impressive series of thirteen victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 13-0 record. Piratas lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 11 games lost. Titanes' next round opponent will be league's second-placed Team Cali on the road and it will be for sure the game of the week. Piratas will play against Bucaros (#3) and hope to win that game.



Condores - Sabios 75-78

American forward Brandon Givens (198-87, college: NC-Wesleyan) answered with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds and the other American import Parker Farris (195-94, college: Hawaii-Hilo) added 21 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Piratas.
