LPB Round 14: Team Cali hand first defeat to Titanes

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Titanes (13-1) recorded its first loss on the court of second ranked Team Cali on Wednesday night. Visitors were edged by Team Cali 82-81. It ended at the same time the 13-game winning streak of Titanes. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. The best player for the winners was American forward Raphiael Putney (207-90, college: UMass) who had a double-double by scoring 11 points and 14 rebounds. International Michaell Jackson (190-87) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. The former international power forward Juan Palacios-Tello (206-85) produced 15 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists for the guests. Team Cali (9-4) have an impressive five-game winning streak. Newly promoted Team Cali maintains second position having five points less than leader Titanes. Defending champion Titanes still keep top place with one game lost.
The game in Bogota was also worth to mention about. Fifth ranked Bucaros (7-6) played at the court of 8th ranked Piratas (1-13). Bucaros did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 105-88. Dominican point guard Adris De-Leon (180-84, college: EWU) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists (was perfect 13-for-13 from the free throw line !!!). Anthony Young contributed with 25 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Bucaros' coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American forward Brandon Givens (198-87, college: NC-Wesleyan) replied with a double-double by scoring 40 points (!!!) and 10 rebounds for Piratas. Bucaros moved-up to fourth place. Piratas lost fifth consecutive game. They stay at the bottom position with 13 games lost.

Nick King scored 27 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners. Tigrillos' coach felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Malik Wineglass responded with 14 points and 9 rebounds. Despite that victory Tigrillos went down to fifth position due to points difference. Condores lost third consecutive game. Condores at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keep the sixth place with nine games lost. They share the position with Storm.

In the last two games of round 14 Storm were defeated by Sabios in Manizales 89-83. Sabios beat Piratas at home 94-88.
The best stats of 14th round was 39 points (!!!), 15 rebounds and 5 assists by John Merchant of Sabios.



Tigrillos - Condores 105-66

The game with biggest result difference took place in Medellin. Local Tigrillos (7-7) outscored 6th ranked Condores (5-9) 105-66 on Tuesday night. Tigrillos dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Condores' 32. They outrebounded Condores 56-40 including a 45-29 advantage in defensive rebounds. Tigrillos looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists comparing to just 10 passes made by Condores' players. American forward Nick King (201-95, college: MTSU) scored 27 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import center Chris Ware (203-89, college: Indiana Tech) chipped in 16 points and 13 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) during the contest. Five Tigrillos players scored in double figures. Tigrillos' coach felt very confident that he used 10 players and allowed the starting five to rest. American center Malik Wineglass (203-93, college: Harris-Stowe St.) responded with 14 points and 9 rebounds and international Alvaro Pena (197-95) scored 12 points and 6 rebounds. There was no surprise in Manizales where 7th ranked Storm (5-9) was defeated by fifth ranked Sabios (7-5) 89-83 on Tuesday. American guard John Merchant (187-89, college: Dowling) had a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 13 rebounds and 5 assists to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import Jovonni Shuler (198-87, college: SSU) chipped in 20 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. Shuler is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Dominican forward Juan Guerrero (205-93) responded with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 16 rebounds and Dominican forward Juan-Miguel Suero (196-93) scored 17 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists. Four Storm players scored in double figures. Sabios have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place. Storm at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the sixth position with nine games lost. They share it with Condores.
