Traditionally, every week we bring you a list of the top performances of Colombians who are currently playing abroad.
#1. This week's number one is an international power forward
Tonny Trocha-Morelos (208-94, college:
Texas A&M, currently plays in Argentina). He was the major contributor in a
Boca Juniors' victory against the 16th-ranked La Union (4-0) crushing them
96-65 in the Argentinian La Liga in Monday night's game.
Trocha-Morelos recorded 13 points and blocked 2 shots in 23 minutes on the court.
Boca Juniors (8-3) is placed first in South group.
It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row.
It's Trocha-Morelos' first season with the team.
This year he averages: 7.5ppg, 5.0rpg, 1.7bpg, 2FGP: 41.9%, 3FGP: 33.3% and FT: 66.7% in six games he played so far.
Trocha-Morelos is currently a member of the Colombian senior national team.
#2. Second place goes to an international center
Jaime Echenique (211-97, college:
Wichita St., currently plays in Spain). He could not help
Gipuzkoa (2-11) in their last game on Wednesday. Despite Echenique's very good performance Gipuzkoa was badly defeated
90-73 on the road by the much higher-ranked UCAM Murcia (#9).
He was the top scorer with 15 points. Echenique also added 6 rebounds and made 2 blocks.
Echenique has relatively good stats this season: 13.9ppg, 4.8rpg, 1.3bpg, 1.3spg, 2FGP: 52.2%, 3FGP: 66.7% and FT: 79.6%.
He is in the roster of the Colombian senior national team.
#3. The Colombian player who performed third best last week abroad was an international guard
Braian Angola-Rodas (198-94, agency:
Wasserman, college:
FSU, currently plays in Israel). Angola-Rodas was not able to help
Ironi Nes-Ziona (1-5) in their last game. Despite his very good performance Ironi Nes-Ziona lost
74-79 in Rishon Le-Zion to the higher-ranked (#7) M.Rishon.
Angola-Rodas was the second best scorer with 17 points. He also added 9 rebounds in 27 minutes. It was his first game for Ironi Nes-Ziona this season; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Angola-Rodas' third season in pro basketball. It was Ironi Nes-Ziona's fourth consecutive loss in a row.
But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen.
Angola-Rodas is also a member of the Colombian senior national team.
#4. Power forward
Jhan Paul Mejia (208-94, college:
Charleston, currently plays in Spain) was not able to secure a victory for
Alcobendas (6-4) in their game against Algeciras (2-4) in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division).
He scored 5 points.
The fourth-placed Alcobendas (6-4) was edged
82-81 at home by the lower-ranked Algeciras (#10) in the West group.
They ended the series of three consecutive victories.
But the season just started, so everything may happen.
