Merchant's double-double lands him Player of the Week award- May 2, 2021
He had a double-double of 21 points and 18 rebounds, while his team edged out Bucaros (#7, 0-1), the league's bottom-ranked team 80-76. Hurricanes maintains the 5th position in Colombian league. Hurricanes is rather a weak team placed in lower part in the standings. They need more victories to improve their 1-2 record. In the team's last game Merchant had a remarkable three three-pointers out of 7 attempts. He just recently signed at Hurricanes and just after two games he already turned to be a very valuable addition to the team. Dowling College graduate has very impressive stats this year. Merchant is in league's top in rebounds (4th best: 13.5rpg) and assists (6th best: 4.5apg). Second best performed player last round was Jaison Colome (190-SG-96) of Storm. He is Dominican Rep. guard in his first season at Storm. In the last game Colome recorded impressive 24 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Of course he led Storm to another comfortable win outscoring Hurricanes (1-2) 88-67. The season is still at the very beginning and this victory may help a lot. Let's wait for the next round. Colome is one of the most experienced players at Storm and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 24.0ppg (#4). He also recorded 4.0 assists per game. Third place about best performers goes to forward Michaell Jackson (190-PF-87) of league's leader Cafeteros. Jackson showcased his all-around game by recording 23 points, eight rebounds and four assists in the last round. He was a key player of Cafeteros, leading his team to a 85-83 win against Piratas (#8, 0-1). Cafeteros has a very good start of the season. But there were just 2 games played, so it's too early to judge them at this stage. Jackson also has a very good start of the season with very strong stats. Jackson has a great season in Colombia. After only 2 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 21.5ppg (5th best). Other top performing players last week: 4.
