LPB Round 7: Motilones lose to Storm

The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The game between second ranked Motilones (6-3) and eighth ranked Storm (4-5) was the most important one in the last round on Tuesday night. Motilones were defeated by Storm in a tough game in San Andres Island 63-67. Storm forced 20 Motilones turnovers and had a 14-3 advantage in offensive rebounds. Worth to mention a great performance of international power forward Luis Almanza (196-91) who helped to win the game recording 22 points. Dominican forward Rich Polanco (203-97, college: S.Dakota) contributed with 11 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. American center Jovonni Shuler (198-87, college: SSU) answered with 9 points and 7 rebounds for Motilones. Motilones' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Storm have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Newly promoted Motilones keep the second position with three games lost. They share it with Cafeteros.
An interesting game for Titanes (9-0) which played road game in Armenia against their biggest opponent Cafeteros (6-3). Leader Titanes managed to get a 9-point victory 82-73. It was a great evening for Dominican-Puerto Rican forward Jonathan Rodriguez (196-87, college: Campbell) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. Tonny Trocha-Morelos helped adding 23 points and 6 rebounds (perfect behind the arc making all six shots !!!). At the losing side the former international forward Andres Ibarguen (198-96, college: Angelo St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated Titanes have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. Defending champion maintains first place with 9-0 record. Newly promoted Cafeteros keep the second position with three games lost. They share it with Motilones.
LPB top team - Titanes (9-0) managed to deliver another win on Monday. This time they beat eighth ranked Piratas (3-6) in Bogota 97-83. It was a quality performance for Juan Palacios-Tello who led the winners and scored 25 points and 9 rebounds. Gabriel Belardo came up with 28 points, 6 assists and 4 steals for Piratas in the defeat. The victory was the ninth consecutive win for Titanes. Defending champion maintains first place with 9-0 record. Piratas lost their fifth game in a row. They dropped to the ninth position with six games lost.
Bottom-ranked Team Cali is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their ninth consecutive match to ninth ranked Hurricanes (4-5) 89-83. Jezreel De Jesus fired a triple-double by scoring 19 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners. Team Cali's coach tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Hurricanes moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Team Cali lost their ninth game in a row. They still close the standings with nine games lost.
The game in Medellin supposed to be also quite interesting. 4th placed Bucaros (4-5) played at the court of fifth ranked Tigrillos (5-4). Tigrillos did not have too big problems and got a relatively easy victory 102-82 on Wednesday. It was a very good performance for Wesley Van Beck who helped to win the game recording 18 points. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Tigrillos moved-up to fourth place. Bucaros at the other side dropped to the fifth position with five games lost.

Other games in round 7 were not that significant. Hurricanes beat Tigrillos on the road 75-72. Motilones won against Sabios on its own court 86-79. Piratas unfortunately lost to Sabios in Manizales 76-85.



Tigrillos - Hurricanes 72-75

There was a surprise result when ninth ranked Hurricanes (4-5) edged higher ranked Tigrillos (5-4) in Medellin 75-72 on Monday. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Hurricanes made 7 blocks. It was a very good performance for Puerto Rican guard Jezreel De Jesus (185-91, agency: Interperformances) who helped to win the game recording 32 points (made all of his nine free throws !!!). Argentinian guard Juan Arengo (185-96) contributed with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. American-Argentinian power forward Phillip Lockett (202-88) answered with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 12 rebounds and American forward Wesley Van Beck (191-96, college: Houston) added 16 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Tigrillos. Tigrillos' coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Hurricanes moved-up to fifth place, which they share with 3 other teams. Tigrillos at the other side dropped to the fourth position with four games lost.

Motilones - Sabios 86-79

Very expected game when 9th ranked Sabios (4-5) lost to second ranked Motilones (6-3) in Cucuta 79-86 on Monday. It was a very good performance for American center Jovonni Shuler (198-87, college: SSU) who helped to win the game recording 24 points and 9 rebounds. His fellow American import center Nicholas Evans (210-88, college: S.Indiana) contributed with 23 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Shuler is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Four Motilones players scored in double figures. American JC Fuller (194-94, college: W.Illinois, agency: Slash Sports) answered with 31 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists and forward Yorbis Altamar (195-99) added 18 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Sabios. Newly promoted Motilones maintains second place with 6-3 record having just three points less than leader Titanes, which they share with Cafeteros. Sabios at the other side dropped to the fifth position with five games lost.

It was a quality performance for the former international power forward Juan Palacios-Tello (206-85) who led the winners and scored 25 points and 9 rebounds. Dominican-Puerto Rican forward Jonathan Rodriguez (196-87, college: Campbell) accounted for 16 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists for the winning side. American guard Gabriel Belardo (188-89, college: FIU) came up with 28 points, 6 assists and 4 steals and American-Puerto Rican forward Timajh Parker-Rivera (202-94, college: Towson) added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 8 assists respectively for Piratas in the defeat. Five Titanes and four Piratas players scored in double figures. The victory was the ninth consecutive win for Titanes. Defending champion maintains first place with 9-0 record.
