DPB Round 2: Tigrillos lose to Cafeteros

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in DPB. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most crucial game of the last round was a loss of Tigrillos in Armenia on Monday night. Visitors were defeated by Cafeteros 69-55. The best player for the winners was American Joel Kindred (193-91, college: St.Augustine) who scored 22 points and 8 rebounds. Venezuelan Maolin Colina (190-90) chipped in 18 points and 4 assists. American-U.S. Virgin Islands point guard Georgio Milligan (188-90, college: F&M) produced 12 points and 7 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cafeteros is looking forward to face Titanes in Barranquilla in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Tigrillos will play at home against Cimarrones and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game with biggest result difference took place in San Andres Island. Local Storm beat Sabios 63-48. Argentinian swingman Federico Mariani (190-92) orchestrated the victory by scoring 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Luis Almanza contributed with 16 points and 5 rebounds (on 7-of-8 shooting from the field) for the winners. American guard Devin Harris (195-95, college: Jacksonville) replied with 18 points and 8 rebounds for Sabios. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Storm will play against Piratas in Bogota in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Sabios will play on the road against Condores in Cundinamarca to get more than just one victory in their record.

Rest of the games of round 2 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
bottom-ranked Titanes defeated Piratas in Barranquilla 78-67. Winless Bucaros were beaten by Condores at home 76-83. Team Cali won against Corsarios on the opponent's court 74-70. Cimarrones managed to outperform Motilones in a home game 84-77.
The best stats of 2nd round was 26 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks by Luis Santos of Motilones.



Cafeteros - Tigrillos 69-55

Piratas - Titanes 67-78

But Piratas were not able to use a home court advantage and were defeated by the opponent from Barranquilla 78-67. Titanes forced 19 Piratas turnovers. Strangely Piratas outrebounded Titanes 44-30 including 29 on the defensive glass. The former international forward Soren De Luque (196-98) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. Panamanian Josimar Ayarza (205-87, college: Southern Miss) contributed with 23 points for the winners. The former international guard Yildon Mendoza (206-96, college: Angelo St.) replied with 11 points and 9 rebounds and Rodrigo Pena added 11 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Piratas. Four Piratas players scored in double figures. Piratas' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Titanes will play against Cafeteros in Armenia in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Piratas will play on the road against Storm in San Andres Island to get more than just one victory in their record.

Bucaros - Condores 76-83

But Bucaros were not able to use a home court advantage and lost to the opponent from Cundinamarca 83-76. Condores outrebounded Bucaros 53-34 including a 37-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. The game was dominated by American players. Point guard Pat Bacon (183-97, college: Tampa) orchestrated the victory by scoring 21 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Guard JaShawn Brooks (190-96, college: Mars Hill) contributed with 23 points for the winners. Brooks is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Condores' coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Martavian Payne (188, college: Lindenwood) replied with 24 points and power forward Marquis Salmon (203-94, college: Texas Southern) added 15 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Bucaros. Four Bucaros players scored in double figures. Condores will play against Sabios in Manizales in the next round. Bucaros will play on the road against Team Cali to get more than just one victory in their record.

There was a minor upset in Cartagena where Corsarios were defeated by Team Cali 74-70. Team Cali outrebounded Corsarios 47-35 including 35 on the defensive glass. Dominican power forward Jeromy Rodriguez (201-96, college: ETSU) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists. American guard Lagerald Vick (196-97, college: Kansas) contributed with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 11 rebounds for the winners. Team Cali's coach Gustavo Aranzana allowed to play the deep bench players in such tough game. American guard Anton Gill (191-94, college: Nebraska, agency: Interperformances) replied with 14 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists and his fellow American import power forward Jordan Williams (205-96, college: Penn St-Wilkes Barre, agency: One Motive Sports) added 15 points and 13 rebounds in the effort for Corsarios. Four Corsarios players scored in double figures. Team Cali will play against Bucaros in Bucaramanga in the next round where they are favorite. Corsarios will play on the road against Motilones in Cucuta to get more than just one victory in their record.

Very predictable result in Quibdo-Choco where Cimarrones beat Motilones 84-77. They outrebounded Motilones 49-31 including a 40-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. American forward Mike Bruesewitz (199-90, college: Wisconsin) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists. The other American import Dominique Morrison (198-89, college: ORU, agency: Haylett Sports) contributed with 22 points and 8 rebounds for the winners. Four Cimarrones players scored in double figures. Yeison Yan replied with 24 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists and Dominican center Luis Santos (203-94, college: St.Louis) added 26 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks in the effort for Motilones. Motilones' coach Hernan Laginestra rotated eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Cimarrones will play against Tigrillos in Medellin in the next round where they are favorite. Motilones will play at home against Corsarios to get more than just one victory in their record.
