LSBF Round 9: Guerreros keep a leadership position

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The game had a very big importance for second-ranked Guerreros as it allowed them to take a leadership position. Guerreros defeated 4th placed Caqueta in Bogota 60-51. Guerreros forced 30 Caqueta turnovers. Strangely Caqueta outrebounded Guerreros 46-21 including a 29-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Nathalie Contreras stepped up and scored 15 points for the winners and center Maria Garcia (180-2004) chipped in 10 points and 5 steals. The best for the losing side was Mederith Venner with a double-double by scoring 18 points and 19 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Undefeated Guerreros (10-0) have an impressive series of ten victories in a row. As mentioned above they are alone now at the top position. Newly promoted Caqueta dropped to the second place with five games lost.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Bucaramang. Leader host Bucaros (8-0) smashed 4th placed Casanare (0-8) 102-48. Montenegrin-American swingman Eshaya Murphy (181-1985, college: USC) nailed 21 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists for the winning side and Esther Palmera accounted for 16 points and 7 rebounds. Elen Pulido came up with 11 points and 7 rebounds for Casanare in the defeat. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for Bucaros. Newly promoted Bucaros maintains first place with 8-0 record, which they share with Indeportes. Casanare lost their sixth game in a row. They still close the standings with eight games lost.
The game between Top Four teams took place in . Second ranked host Hormigas ILBS (5-3) smashed 3rd placed Sel. Columbia (3-5) 54-34. The best player for the winners was Vera Rios who scored 19 points and 7 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Lissa Forero who recorded 7 points and 6 rebounds. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Hormigas ILBS. They maintain second place with 5-3 record having just two points less than leader Indeportes, which they share with Caldas. Newly promoted Sel. Columbia keeps the third position with five games lost. They share it with Raptors.

In the last two games of round 9 Cundinamarca won against Soacha on the opponent's court 63-57. Bogota was outscored by Huila in a home game 44-65.

Soacha - Cundinamarca 57-63

Rather expected game when 6th ranked Soacha (1-10) was defeated at home by fourth ranked Cundinamarca (5-5) 63-57 on Sunday. The best player for the winners was forward Leidy Montano (173-2004) who scored 17 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals. Center Erika Escobar (-1992) chipped in 12 points and 7 rebounds. Cundinamarca's coach used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. At the other side the best for losing team was forward Daniela Galindo (-2001) who recorded 8 points and 13 rebounds and Carolina Raga added 14 points and 7 rebounds respectively. Cundinamarca moved-up to third place, which they share with Huila. Soacha lost their fifth game in a row. They keep the sixth position with ten games lost.

Bogota - Huila 44-65

There was a small surprise when fifth ranked Huila (5-5) smashed on the road their close opponent Bogota (4-7) 65-44 on Sunday. Huila held Bogota to an opponent 24.2 percent shooting from the field compared to 35.6 percent accuracy of the winners. Huila forced 24 Bogota turnovers. The best player for the winners was Heylin Quiroz (-1990) who scored 21 points and 9 rebounds. Venezuelan Nicole Garcia (174-2001) chipped in 14 points and 5 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Yenifer Cojo who recorded 13 points and 9 rebounds and guard Carolina Giraldo (-1993) added 6 points and 12 rebounds respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. The victory was the third consecutive win for Huila. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Cundinamarca. Bogota lost their fourth game in a row. They keep the fifth position with seven games lost.

The game between Top Four teams took place in Bucaramang. Leader host Bucaros (8-0) smashed 4th placed Casanare (0-8) 102-48. Bucaros dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Casanare's 30 and made 23-of-30 charity shots (76.7 percent) during the game, while Casanare only scored three points from the stripe. Bucaros forced 20 Casanare turnovers and outrebounded them 46-34 including a 39-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 24 assists comparing to just 5 passes made by Casanare's players.
