Cafeteros de Armenia (Liga Wplay) strengthened their roster with addition of 30-year old Dominican small forward Luis Montero (203cm-1993, college: South Plains) for season 2024. Montero played this summer at Titanes in LNB league in Dominican Republic. In 16 games just recently he recorded 13.6ppg, 7.0rpg, 2.6apg and 1.3bpg. He helped them to make it to the Dominican Republic LNB final after they ended regular season as second best team.
Montero has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2016.
He represented Dominican Republic at the World Cup in China four years ago. Montero's team got to the Semifinals and his stats at that event were 5 games: 5.6ppg, 2.8rpg, 1.4spg, FGP: 38.5%, 3PT: 31.3%, FT: 50.0%.
Montero is quite experienced player. He has played also professionally in Argentina (San Lorenzo and Platense), Mexico (Capitanes), Poland, Venezuela (Cocodrilos), NBA (Detroit Pistons, Miami Monteroat and Portland Trail Blazers) and NBA G League (Sioux Falls Skyforce, Santa Cruz Warriors, Stockton Kings and Grand Rapids Gold) and Dominican Republic (Gregorio Urbano Gilbert, La Villa, Leones and El Million). He was voted to Latinbasket.com All-Venezuelan SPB Honorable Mention in 2023.
Montero graduated from South Plains College in 2015 and it will be his tenth season as a professional player. He played also for Westchester Community College for one year.
