Liga Wplay Round 10 (Regular Season): Cafeteros defeat Storm in the closest game of the week

Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 10 in the Liga WPlay took place in Armenia. This derby game ended with only three-point defeat on the road of one of their biggest challengers Storm (8-2) to second ranked Cafeteros (9-1) 77-74 in the game for the second place. It ended at the same time the four-game winning streak of Storm. Dominican Luis Montero (203-1993, college: South Plains) scored 22 points (made all of his eight free throws) to lead the charge for the winners and Venezuelan forward Luis Bethelmy (200-1986) chipped in 13 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. At the losing side the former international Luis Almanza (196-1991) responded with 16 points and 8 rebounds. Cafeteros have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 9-1 record behind leader Titanes. Storm at the other side keeps the third place with two games lost.
The game between Top Four teams took place in Barranquilla. Top-ranked host Titanes (10-0) smashed 4th ranked Piratas (6-4) 112-81. Dominican-Puerto Rican swingman Jonathan Rodriguez (196-1987, college: Campbell) notched 39 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 7 assists (on 14-of-17 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and Juan Tello-Palacios supported him with 20 points and 6 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field). Even 20 points by American guard Tristan Jarrett (193-1998, college: Jackson St.) did not help to save the game for Piratas. Piratas' coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Undefeated Titanes have an impressive ten-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 10-0 record. Piratas at the other side dropped to the fifth place with four games lost. They share the position with Motilones.
Bottom-ranked Condores (0-10) is still winless. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their tenth consecutive match to sixth ranked Motilones (6-4) 84-77 on Friday evening. CJ Rodriguez fired 38 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds for the winners. Jerry Carter produced 27 points and 7 rebounds for lost side. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Motilones moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Piratas. Loser Condores still closes the standings with ten games lost.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 10: Corsarios lost to Bucaros on the opponent's court 89-99. Tigrillos unfortunately lost to Cimarrones in a home game 77-80. Team Cali managed to beat Sabios on the road 83-79.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 26 points and 10 rebounds by Kylon Higgins of Sabios.




Bucaros - Corsarios 99-89

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 8th ranked Corsarios' (3-7) road loss to seventh ranked Bucaros (5-5) 89-99 on Thursday. American swingman LeBryan Nash (201-1992, college: OK State) fired 21 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Venezuelan swingman Elvis Baez (191-1989) chipped in 23 points and 5 assists. American point guard Jeremy Smith (180-1997, college: CSUSB) produced 26 points and the former international guard Yesid Mosquera-Perea (198-1996, college: Life) added 20 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Four Bucaros and five Corsarios players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Bucaros maintains seventh position with 5-5 record. Loser Corsarios keep the eighth place with seven games lost. They share the position with Cimarrones.

Everything could happen in Medellin at the game between two tied teams. Both ninth ranked Cimarrones and 10th ranked Tigrillos had identical 2-7 record. But Tigrillos were not able to use a home court advantage and were edged by the opponent from Quibdo-Choco 80-77 on Friday night. Venezuelan point guard Leonardo Palacios (186-1994) fired 16 points and 8 assists for the winners. Venezuelan center Windi Graterol (204-1986, agency: Pro Sports) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds. Not a big story in a game in Manizales where 11th ranked Sabios (1-9) were defeated by fourth ranked Team Cali (7-3) 83-79 on Friday. Team Cali forced 24 Sabios turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Martin Cabezas fired a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. American-Puerto Rican guard Brian Vazquez (190-1994) chipped in 17 points and 5 assists. American guard Kylon Higgins (190-1993, college: Arkansas Tech) produced a double-double by scoring 26 points and 10 rebounds and Andres Sepulveda (193-1997) added 12 points and 9 rebounds respectively for lost side.
