Bucaros de Bucaramanga (Liga Wplay) signed experienced 35-year old Nigerian-American ex-international power forward Gani Lawal (206cm-106kg-1988, college: Georgia Tech) for upcoming 2024 season. Lawal is the second foreigner player in the roster as Panamanian Josimar Ayarza signed here earlier.
He just played at Plateros in Mexican LNBP. In 30 games he had 8.0ppg and 6.2rpg last season. The last season he played at Runa Basket in Russian Superleague 1 where in 34 games he recorded 8.0ppg and 5.6rpg. He helped them to make it to the Russian Superleague 1 final after they ended regular season as second best team. Good year as he was named League Player of the Week (2 times).
In 2010 he was drafted by Phoenix Suns (NBA) in second round (46th overall). He graduated from Georgia Institute of Technology and it will be his 15th (!!!) season in pro basketball. Lawal was a member of Nigerian Senior National Team back in 2013.
He is quite experienced player. Lawal has played in seventeen different countries on four different continents (Europe, Asia, Latin America and of course North America). He has played previously professionally in Argentina (San Lorenzo), China, France (Chalons Reims), Greece (Panathinaikos), Iran (Petrochimi), Italy (Cantu and Sassari), Japan (Rizing and Lakestars), Latvia, Philippines (Meralco Bolts), Poland, Qatar (Al Rayyan), Slovenia (Krka), Turkey (Trabzonspor and Karesi Spor), Venezuela (Trotamundos), NBA (Philadelphia 76ers), Dominican Republic (Metros) and NBA G League (Stockton Kings, Delaware Blue Coats and Westchester Knicks).
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others he won Liga Americas championship title in 2018. Lawal was voted to Asia-Basket.com All-Japanese B League Honorable Mention back in 2019.
