Liga WPlay Round 14 (Regular Season): Piratas defeat Corsarios in the closest game of the week

The most exciting game of round 14 in the Liga Wplay took place in Bogota. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 5th ranked Corsarios (3-9) to eighth ranked Piratas (3-9) 76-75 in the game for the fifth place. American guard Tristan Jarrett (193-1998, college: Jackson St.) scored 25 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import point guard Jeremy Smith (180-1997, college: CSUSB, agency: Diamond Sports) chipped in 20 points and 6 assists during the contest. American swingman Jalen Brooks (196, college: LSUS, agency: Players Group) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds. Piratas moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Toros Del Valle and Corsarios. Corsarios lost fifth consecutive game. Piratas is again looking forward to face Corsarios (#5) in Cartagena in the next round. Corsarios will have a break next round.
Liga Wplay top team - Storm (10-2) added another victory to their record. This time they beat fifth ranked Corsarios (3-9) in San Andres Island 86-79. The former international guard Romario Roque (175-1998) notched 22 points to lead the effort and Jean Quezada supported him with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Storm's coach Jaime Ortiz allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even a double-double of 25 points and 12 rebounds by American swingman Jalen Brooks (196, college: LSUS, agency: Players Group) did not help to save the game for Corsarios. Carrib.Storm maintains first position with 10-2 record. Corsarios lost fifth consecutive game. They keep the fifth place with nine games lost. They share the position with Piratas and Toros Del Valle. Carrib.Storm will play against Titanes (#3) in Barranquilla in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Corsarios will play on the road against Piratas in Bogota and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

The best player for the winners was Juan Rosario who had a double-double by scoring 28 points and 12 rebounds. Mateo Diaz produced 15 points and 4 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Motilones have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain fourth position with 7-4 record. Toros Del Valle at the other side keeps the fifth place with nine games lost. They share the position with Piratas and Corsarios. Motilones will meet bottom-ranked Cimarrones (#8) in the next round. Toros Del Valle will play against the league's second-placed Bucaros and hope to secure a win.

In the last two games of round 14 Motilones lost to Toros Del Valle on the opponent's court 75-87. Toros Del Valle unfortunately lost to Bucaros in a home game 68-79.

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Cali where one of their biggest challengers Motilones (7-4) were defeated by fifth ranked Toros (3-9) 87-75 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was Argentinian-Italian guard Mateo Diaz (186-2002) who scored 18 points and 6 rebounds. Argentinian point guard Fabian Sahdi (186-1989) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds. Dominican point guard Miguel Dicent (190-1994, college: Morehead St., agency: BMS Sport Agency) produced 13 points and Dominican Diego Colon (188-2001, agency: BMS Sport Agency) added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the guests. Rather predictable result in Cali where third ranked Bucaros (10-3) defeated 5th ranked Toros (3-9) 79-68 on Monday. Bucaros outrebounded Toros Del Valle 48-32 including 34 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was Panamanian Josimar Ayarza (205-1987, college: Southern Miss) who scored 27 points and 7 rebounds. American guard Nathan Priddy (188-1999, college: Elon) chipped in a double-double by scoring 17 points and 11 rebounds. The former international forward Yildon Mendoza (206-1996, college: Angelo St.) produced 14 points and 9 rebounds and Brazilian forward Emanuel Matias (202-1999) added 11 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Four Toros Del Valle players scored in double figures. Toros' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Bucaros moved-up to second place.
