Liga Wplay Round 2 (Regular Season): Paisas defeat Piratas in the closest game of the week

There were only 2 rounds played so far and it's still very beginning of the Regular Season in Liga Wplay. Here is the last round review presented by Job Market.

The most exciting game of round 2 in the Liga Wplay took place in Bogota. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of Piratas to Paisas 85-83 in the game for the third place. Paisas forced 22 Piratas turnovers. Strangely Piratas outrebounded Paisas 45-33 including a 37-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. 27 personal fouls committed by Piratas helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. American Anthony January (204-1993, college: CSUSB) scored 22 points and 8 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and the other American import Tyler Hawkins (190, college: Barry) chipped in 19 points and 7 rebounds during the contest. American guard Eric Crawford (193, college: Maine-Augusta) responded with 20 points and 9 rebounds. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game.
Important game to mention about took place in Bogota. Piratas saved a 2-point victory at home edging Paisas 95-93 in the fight for the third place. Naturalized Venezuelan forward Yorbis Altamar (195-1999) notched 22 points and 6 rebounds to lead the effort and Ronny Guerrero supported him with 16 points and 11 rebounds. Even 34 points (!!!) and 5 rebounds by American Tyler Hawkins (190, college: Barry) did not help to save the game for Paisas. Both coaches tested many bench players in such tough game.
Very significant was Storm's (#3, 2-1) victory against Paisas 71-60. The best player for the winners was Romario Roque who scored 21 points and 7 assists. Octavio Munoz produced 12 points and 8 rebounds for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games.

There were no shocking results in the other games in round 2: Motilones destroyed Sabios on the opponent's court 101-66. Winless Sabios lost to undefeated Motilones in a home game 73-85. Cimarrones recorded a loss to Carrib.Storm on the road 74-87.




Carrib.Storm - Paisas 71-60

Very significant was Storm's (#3, 2-1) victory against Paisas 71-60. Carrib.Storm outrebounded Paisas 40-27 including 30 on the defensive glass. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Romario Roque (175-1998) who scored 21 points and 7 assists. The former international center Cristian Arboleda (205-1992) chipped in 7 points and 21 rebounds. The former international point guard Octavio Munoz (179-2001) produced 12 points and 8 rebounds and American Anthony January (204-1993, college: CSUSB) added 16 points respectively for the guests. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games.

Sabios - Motilones 66-101

Very expected game in Manizales where Sabios were crushed by Motilones 101-66 on Wednesday. Motilones dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Sabios' 32. Motilones forced 28 Sabios turnovers. The best player for the winners was Dominican power forward Juan Rosario (203-1999, agency: BMS Sport Agency) who scored 35 points (!!!) and 9 rebounds. American point guard Jeremy Smith (180-1997, college: CSUSB, agency: Diamond Sports) chipped in 18 points. Five Motilones players scored in double figures. American-Puerto Rican swingman Jordan Glover (198-1996, college: TCNJ, agency: SLN) produced a double-double by scoring 23 points and 13 rebounds and Loboa Josue added 12 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Sabios' coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win.

Very predictable result in Manizales where Motilones defeated Sabios 85-73 on Thursday. Motilones had a 35-20 advantage in offensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was forward Jeronimo Villegas (203, college: C.Georgia Tech) who had a double-double by scoring 10 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists. Naturalized Venezuelan Hector Diaz (192-1992) chipped in 13 points and 6 rebounds. American-Puerto Rican swingman Jordan Glover (198-1996, college: TCNJ, agency: SLN) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 13 rebounds and Jesus Diaz added 9 points and 13 rebounds respectively for the hosts. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Sabios' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help.

Storm used a home court advantage and won against the opponent from Quibdo-Choco 87-74 on Friday night. Carrib.Storm looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Carrib.Storm made 9 blocks. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Romario Roque (175-1998) who scored 25 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. American Desmond Holloway (194-1990, college: Coastal) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points, 15 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Storm players scored in double figures. Storm's coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American Chance Hunter (198-1998, college: Cal Poly, agency: Players Group) produced a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Abdul Bah (185, college: MSUB, agency: Players Group) added 24 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests.
