The game between third ranked Storm (4-4) and fifth ranked Piratas (4-4) was the most important one in the last round on Tuesday night. Storm was crushed by Piratas in Bogota 95-68. Piratas dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Storm's 36. Piratas forced 25 Carrib.Storm turnovers. The best player for the winners was American-Dominican Luis Martinez (198-1984, college: William Pater.) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 10 rebounds. American guard Eric Crawford (193, college: Maine-Augusta) chipped in 19 points and 5 rebounds. Piratas' coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The former international center Cristian Arboleda (205-1992) produced 15 points and 7 rebounds for the guests. Piratas moved-up to fourth place, which they share with Carrib.Storm. Piratas is looking forward to face bottom-ranked Sabios (#7) in Manizales in the next round. Carrib.Storm will have a break next round.
Sabios can celebrate their first win this season after six consecutive losses. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Quibdo-Choco, where they defeated Cimarrones (3-7) 118-109. American-Puerto Rican swingman Jordan Glover (198-1996, college: TCNJ, agency: SLN) orchestrated the victory by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds. Maolin Colina contributed with 26 points and 4 assists for the winners. American Chance Hunter (198-1998, college: Cal Poly, agency: Players Group) answered with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for Cimarrones. Sabios maintains seventh place with 1-6 record. Cimarrones at the other side keep the sixth position with seven games lost. Sabios will play against higher ranked Piratas (#4) in Bogota in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Cimarrones will play at home against the league's leader Motilones and will have a slim chance for a victory.
