SPB 2025 - Gladiadores sign Matthew Butler, ex Cimarrones

Gladiadores de Anzoategui (SPB) signed 30-year old American guard Matthew Butler (188cm-84kg-1995, college: UT Martin) for upcoming 2025 season. Butler joins another USA player Markel Crawford who is already in the roster.
He played last summer at Cimarrones in Colombian Liga WPlay. He managed to play in three leagues in three countries last year. In 9 Liga Wplay games he had 10.8ppg, 2.9rpg and 1.4apg. He helped them to make it to the semifinals. Butler also played for Guaiqueries in Venezuelan SPB where in 11 games he recorded 7.1ppg, 1.7rpg and 1.4apg. He contributed to his team making it to the Venezuelan SPB final after they ended regular season as second best team. 2024-24 was a great year as he was named to Latinbasket.com All-Venezuelan SPB Honorable Mention. The other team he played shortly was Heroes in Venezuelan SPB. In four games he averaged impressive 21.0ppg, 2.3rpg and 3.3apg.
He is quite experienced player. He has played in six different countries on four different continents (Europe, Asia, Latin America and of course North America). Butler has played previously professionally in Argentina (Union de Santa Fe), Mexico (Freseras), Albania (Vllaznia), Venezuela (Gaiteros), Dominican Republic (Soles) and United Arab Emirates (Al Dhafra).
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others his team won OVC West Division Regular Season in 2017. He was voted to Eurobasket.com Albanian Superliga All-Imports Team back in 2022.
Butler graduated from University of Tennessee at Martin in 2018 and it will be his eighth season as a professional player. He played also for University of Rhode Island for 2 years.
