LBS Round 18: Escazu beats Barva in the most crucial game of the week - Jul 31, 2017

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in San Jose. Third ranked Escazu faced second-best Barva. Host Escazu (12-3) defeated guests from Barva (12-4) 62-52. The game was mostly controlled by Escazu. Barva managed to win fourth quarter 20-13. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Escazu forced 22 Barva turnovers. The best player for the winners was the former international guard Kay Martinez (198-84, college: Jackson St.) who scored 22 points and 6 rebounds. American power forward Julius Brooks (206-90, college: Loyola, MD) chipped in 14 points and 11 rebounds. Escazu's coach Nicolas Marin used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Panamanian Amir Alvarado (198-84, college: Marshalltown CC) who recorded 13 points and 8 rebounds. Escazu have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 12-3 record having five points less than leader ARBA. Defending champion Barva keeps the second place with four games lost.
The game in supposed to be also worth to mention about. Second ranked Barva (12-4) played at the court of 6th ranked Liberia (5-11). Barva smashed Liberia 95-51. Defending champion maintains second position with 12-4 record having four points less than leader ARBA. Liberia at the other side keeps the sixth place with 11 games lost.

In the last game of round 18 bottom-ranked Abogados were crushed by Grecia in a road game 104-69.

Liberia - Barva 51-95

The game in supposed to be also worth to mention about. Second ranked Barva (12-4) played at the court of 6th ranked Liberia (5-11). Barva smashed Liberia 95-51. Defending champion maintains second position with 12-4 record having four points less than leader ARBA. Liberia at the other side keeps the sixth place with 11 games lost.

Grecia - Abogados 104-69

There was no surprise when 9th ranked Abogados (3-13) were crushed on the road by fourth ranked Grecia (10-6) 104-69. The game without a history. Grecia led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They also forced 25 Abogados turnovers. Grecia players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Abogados' players. It was a good game for American-U.S. Virgin Islands point guard Georgio Milligan (187-90, college: Franklin & Marshall) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 5 rebounds, 10 assists and 4 steals. American forward Marquis Aaron (196, college: Bellevue) contributed with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Center Mario Bonilla (198-89) replied with 10 points and 9 rebounds and the former international Reyner Little (185-82) added 14 points in the effort for Abogados. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Grecia maintains fourth position with 10-6 record. Abogados lost third consecutive game. They stay at the bottom place with 13 games lost.
