Costa Rican National League round 9 best performance: Natalia Galvez- November 23, 2020
The 36-year old player was the main contributor (29 points, three rebounds and four assists) to her team's victory, helping them to crush Coopenae (6-1) with 16-point margin 86-70. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed Coronado to take over top position in the Costa Rican National League. Coronado have a solid 6-1 record. In the team's last game Galvez had a remarkable 53.3% from 2-point range. It's her second year at Coronado and it's hard to imagine this team without her. Natalia Galvez has solid league stats. She is in league's top in points (3rd best: 15.9ppg), assists (3rd best: 2.4apg) and averages impressive 54.3% FGP. The second best player in last round's games was Carolina Quesada of San Carlos. Quesada had a very good evening with 9 points and 27 rebounds. Of course San Carlos cruised to a 61-54 relatively comfortable win over slightly higher-ranked Heredia (#4, 3-5). This victory allowed San Carlos to leave bottom place moving a little bit up to 5th position in the standings. 6 lost games are too many comparing to just two victories San Carlos managed to get this year. Quesada is a newcomer at San Carlos and despite she is not a team leader yet, every game she becomes more reliable player. Hopefully performances like the last one will happen more often. Third on the list of top players last round was forward Valeria Gonzalez (162-F-02) of Heredia (#4). Gonzalez scored 20 points and grabbed ten rebounds. Despite Gonzalez's great performance Heredia lost 54-61 to slightly lower-ranked San Carlos (#5, 2-6). But her team cannot count on just a single player as she also needs help of the other teammates. Gonzalez has individually a great season in Costa Rica. After only 8 games, she made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 12.6ppg (6th best) and rebounds with 8.8rpg (6th best). Other top performing players last week: 4. Mariela Matamoros) of Coopenae - 17 points and 15 rebounds 5. Valerie Kooper) of San Carlos - 8 points, 13 rebounds and 5 assists 6. Mariana Cubero) of Monarca - 12 points and 7 rebounds 7. Maria Herra) of Heredia - 10 points and 5 rebounds 8. Silvia Betancourt (170-SG) of Coopenae - 26 points and 3 rebounds 9. Laura Castro (179-F) of Coronado - 11 points, 9 rebounds and 3 assists 10. Sofia Jimenez (173-SF-92) of Coronado - 18 points and 4 rebounds The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc. The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy. The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
