Ciego de Avila knocked down Capitalinos in the Finals opener. The guests trailed by 7 points after three quarters before their 28-8 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Ciego outrebounded Capitalinos 48-30 including a 32-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. Center Yoan Haity stepped up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 18 rebounds for the winners and the former international William Granda (189-85, agency: Pro Sports) chipped in 23 points and 5 rebounds. At the losing side power forward Arlen Alorda (198-86) responded with 17 points and 7 rebounds and guard Reinier Muniz (184-85) scored 9 points and 5 rebounds. Capitalinos' coach Rainel Panfet rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help.

Crelan Okapi Aalstar (Euromillions League) landed 21-year old naturalized Cuban point guard Sigfredo Casero-Ortiz (185-97). He played most recently at played at GET Vosges in French NM1 league. Casero-Ortiz managed to play in three leagues in two countries last year (!!!). In 9 NM1 games he averaged 10.7ppg, 1.2rpg, 2.4apg and 1.0spg.
