Osmel Oliva
International Point guard Osmel Oliva (178-PG-87) had a very impressive game in the last round for second-ranked Pinar del Rio, receiving a Player of the Week award for round 10.
The 29-year old player was the main contributor (26 points, two rebounds and six assists) to his team's victory, helping them to beat Matanzas (#4, 5-4) 67-56. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Pinar del Rio maintains the 2nd position in Cuban LSB. They are still close to the very top. Pinar del Rio would have been even better if they kept winning the games like in the last round. They have a solid 8-1 record. In the team's last game Oliva had a remarkable four three-pointers out of 8 attempts. He just recently signed at Pinar del Rio, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Osmel Oliva has solid league stats. He is in league's top in points (3rd best: 22.6ppg), assists (3rd best: 3.0apg) and averages impressive 6.3spg.

The second best player in last round's games was 31-year old former international shooting guard William Granda (189-SG-85, agency: Pro Sports) of Ciego de Avila. Granda had a very good evening with 31 points, 2 rebounds and 2 assists. Bad luck as Ciego de Avila was edged by league's leader Villa Clara (#1, 10-0) 87-84. Despite lost game Ciego de Avila moved up to 6th position in the standings. 8 lost games are too many comparing to just one victory Ciego de Avila managed to get this year. Granda is a newcomer at Ciego de Avila, but is already one of team's top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 15.9ppg (#7).

Third on the list of top players last round was guard Raudelis Guerra (191-G-93) of Guantanamo (#7). Guerra scored 26 points and passed five assists. Despite Guerra's great performance Guantanamo lost 60-89 to the higher-ranked Capitalinos (#3, 5-4). But his team cannot count on just a single shooter as he also needs help of the other teammates. Guantanamo can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have awful season losing so far all 8 games. Too bad for Guerra he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Guerra has individually a great season in Cuba. After only 8 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in assists with 2.4apg (5th best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Andy Boffil (190-G/F-82) of Villa Clara - 30 points and 4 assists
5. Vladimir Francis (185-PG-83) of Camaguey - 19 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists
6. Yoel Cubillas (204-C-94) of Villa Clara - 13 points and 14 rebounds
7. Yoanis Soria (195-G/F-86) of Guantanamo - 14 points, 6 rebounds and 2 assists
8. Roigelis Ochoa (190-G-93) of Santiago - 15 points and 10 rebounds
9. Esteban Martinez (192-F-87) of Santiago - 26 points
10. Arlen Alorda (198-F/C-86) of Capitalinos - 15 points and 8 rebounds

The Player of the week is chosen based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
