   #1. This week's number one is former international guard Reynaldo Garcia (187-90, agency: DTMones, currently plays in Argentina). He led San Martin Corrientes to a victory over the 12th-ranked Regatas Corrientes (16-22) 72-66 in a derby game in the Argentinian LigaA in Wednesday night's game. Garcia was MVP of the game. He had a double-double by scoring 24 points and getting 10 rebounds in 25 minutes on the court. San Martin Corrientes (29-9) is placed second in the LigaA. It was his team's ninth consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Garcia has relatively good stats this year: 13.4ppg, 4.7rpg, 3.7apg, 1.7spg, 2FGP: 51.4%, 3FGP: 41.3% and FT: 72.1% in 35 games he played so far. He played for the Cuban senior national team nine years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to an international center Jasiel Rivero (204-93, agency: Pro Sports, currently plays in Argentina). Rivero could not help Estudiantes Concordia (16-22) in their last game on Sunday. Despite his very good performance Estudiantes Concordia was defeated 80-74 on the road by the much higher-ranked Quimsa (#5). Rivero was the top scorer with 24 points. He also added 2 blocks (made all of his eight free throws). Rivero has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 17.7ppg, 5.5rpg, 1.1apg, 2FGP: 61.6%(189-307), 3FGP: 32.9% and FT: 72.5%. Rivero is in the roster of the Cuban senior national team.

   #3. The Cuban player who performed third best last week abroad was an international center Javier Justiz (205-92, also represented by Pro Sports, currently plays in Argentina). He contributed to a San Lorenzo's victory against the 17th-ranked Penarol (14-24) 91-82 in the Argentinian LigaA on Sunday night. Justiz had a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 12 rebounds. He also added 4 blocks in 29 minutes. San Lorenzo de Almagra (30-8) is placed first in the LigaA. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. This year Justiz has relatively solid stats: 11.8ppg, 6.5rpg, 1.6bpg, 2FGP: 62.8%(179-285) and FT: 63.0% in 37 games. He is also a member of the Cuban senior national team.

   #4. Forward Karel Guzman (188-95, currently plays in Argentina) was not able to help Olimpico de La Banda (15-23) in their last game on Monday. Despite Guzman's very good performance Olimpico de La Banda was edged 69-66 in Buenos Aires by the lower-ranked Boca Juniors (#15). He was the top scorer with 16 points. Guzman also added 3 steals. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. Guzman has reliable stats this season: 10.3ppg, 2.7rpg and 1.7spg. He is also Cuban national team player.

   #5. An experienced former international swingman Yorman Polas Bartolo (192-85, currently plays in Germany) was not able to secure a victory for Telekom Baskets (21-13) in their last game. Despite Bartolo's very good performance Telekom Baskets lost 72-83 in Muenchen to the leading Bayern. He was the second best scorer with 15 points. Bartolo also added 5 rebounds in 27 minutes. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important. This year Bartolo's overall stats are: 8.5ppg, 3.9rpg, 1.8apg and 1.1spg in 34 games. He has a dual citizenship: Cuban and German. Bartolo used to play for the Cuban national team seven years ago.

   #6. Forward Yoanki Mensia (196-97, currently plays in Argentina) helped GECR Indalo win their game against the 17th-ranked Penarol (14-24) crushing them 75-52 in the Argentinian LigaA in Wednesday night's game. He recorded 11 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 27 minutes. Gimnasia-Indalo Esgr.Comodoro Rivadavia (22-16) is placed seventh in the LigaA. It was GECR Indalo's sixth consecutive victory in a row. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. It's Mensia's first season with the team. This year Mensia's total stats are: 4.8ppg and 1.8rpg in 38 games. He is an international player who is currently on the senior Cuban National Team roster.

Former international forward Georvys Elias (199-81, currently plays in Spain) helped Albacete win their game against the closely-ranked L'Hospitalet (18-12) 74-70 in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division) last Sunday. Elias recorded 6 points and grabbed 7 rebounds in 27 minutes. Arcos Albacete Basket (18-12) is placed sixth in the LEB Silver. Elias has averaged so far 9.3ppg, 5.4rpg and 2.5apg in 34 games. He used to play for the Cuban national team nine years ago.

Lisvan Valdez

   #8. Power forward Lisvan Valdez (200-88, currently plays in El Salvador) was the main contributor in Halcones' victory against the fifth-ranked Quezaltepeque (10-8) 82-67 in the Salvadorean Liga MB (second division) in Tuesday night's game. Valdez was the best player in that game. He had a double-double by scoring 32 points and getting 11 rebounds. Valdez also added 3 blocks in 36 minutes. Halcones de Sonzacate (15-3) is placed first in the Liga MB. It was his team's ninth consecutive victory in a row. Valdez has very impressive stats this year: 22.4ppg, 8.1rpg, 2.9apg, 1.2bpg and 1.2spg in 24 games. He plays currently for the Cuban national team.


The list of other players, who all have Cuban passport but never been selected to any of Cuban national teams:

   #1. Howard Sant-Roos (200-F-91, currently plays in Turkey) contributed to Darussafaka's victory against the closely-ranked Anadolu Efes (20-8) 79-67 in a derby game in the Turkish BSL on Sunday night. He recorded 8 points and grabbed 8 rebounds. Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul (17-11) is placed sixth in the BSL. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. It's Sant-Roos' first season with the team. Sant-Roos' total stats this year are: 6.7ppg, 4.8rpg, 3.4apg and 1.1spg.

   #2. Yunio Barrueta (198-F/G-93, agency: Inception Sports, college: Barry, currently plays in France) could not help Denain Voltaire (15-17) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite Barrueta's very good performance Denain Voltaire was defeated 83-72 on the road by the lower-ranked Aix-Maurienne (#11). He was the second best scorer with 15 points (was perfect 5-for-5 from the free throw line). There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. Barrueta's stats this season are: 13.4ppg and 3.1rpg. He has a dual citizenship: Cuban and American. Strangely Barrueta has never played in Cuba.

   #3. Adrian Diaz (213-C-93, college: FIU, currently plays in Romania) was not able to help BC Timisoara (20-13) in their last game. Despite his good performance the fifth-placed BC Timisoara (20-13) was crushed 89-67 in Bucuresti by the higher-ranked (#4) Steaua CSM in the Places 1-6 group. Diaz was the top scorer with 14 points. He also added 7 rebounds in 28 minutes; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Diaz's second season in pro basketball. Diaz's stats this year are: 14.0ppg, 5.7rpg and 1.2apg in 34 games he played so far. He is another player who holds two passports: Cuban and American. Strangely Diaz has never played in Cuba.

   #4. Yankiel Moreno (189-G-90, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Italy) led Kleb Ferrara to an easy victory against the second-ranked Givova Scafati (20-10) crushing them 77-55 in the Italian Serie A2 (second division) in Sunday night's game. He recorded 13 points. Kleb Basket Ferrara (17-13) is placed seventh in East group. Moreno has averaged so far 7.7ppg, 3.0rpg, 4.6apg and 1.5spg. He has both Cuban and Italian nationalities. Despite Moreno's Cuban passport, he previously played for the Italian U18 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Cuban team.

   #5. Sigfredo Casero-Ortiz (185-PG-97, currently plays in France) was not able to secure a victory for GET Vosges (10-24) in their game against Lorient (17-17) in the French NM1 (third division). Casero-Ortiz recorded 5 points. GET Vosges was crushed 102-76 on the opponent's court by the much higher-ranked Lorient (#8). It was GET Vosges' seventh consecutive loss in a row. The Regular Season already ended. Casero-Ortiz's stats this season are: 10.7ppg, 1.2rpg and 2.4apg. He also holds two passports: Cuban and Belgian.

  



Villa Clara, Camaguey claim latest victories - 3 days ago
Villa Clara edged Matanzas 81-61 in the latest game at the Liga Superior de Baloncesto Masculino 2019. They improved to a 3-1 record, while Matanzas fell at 5-2. Villa Clara dominated the whole game and won all the quarters of it. Camaguey edged Capitalinos de la Habana 76-68. Keiler Cala (195-F-94) stepped up with 21 points and Yordanis Jaca (196-F-83) notched 14. Lisvan Valdes (196-F-88) replied with 21 points.   [read more]

Belize loses heartbreaker to Cuba, 82-80 in second game of FIBA AmeriCup Pre-qualifier tournament - 28 days ago
Belize national team, coached by Milton Palacio , went down 82-80 to Cuba in a nailbiter at the Belize Civic Center this evening. Jasiel Rivero (204-C/F-93, agency: Pro Sports), Cuba's powerful center, led all scorers with 29 points and 9 rebounds. Belize trailed by 12 entering the fourth quarter but mounted a 9-2 run to close the gap to three points.
