YORMAN POLAS BARTOLO
We bring you last week's top performances from Cubans who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

Yorman Polas Bartolo
Yorman Polas Bartolo
#1. This week's number one is an experienced former international swingman Yorman Polas Bartolo (191-85, currently plays in Basketball Champions League). He led his German team Telekom Baskets to an easy victory against the closely-ranked PAOK (5-4) 94-77 in the Basketball Champions League last Tuesday. Bartolo scored 13 points and added 3 assists (went 6 for 6 at the free throw line). Telekom Baskets Bonn (4-5) is placed sixth in the Basketball Champions League. This season Bartolo averages: 9.5ppg, 4.9rpg, 2.8apg, 1.6spg, 2FGP: 59.5%(22-37), 3FGP: 45.5% and FT: 73.9%. He has a dual citizenship: Cuban and German. Bartolo played for the Cuban senior national team seven years ago.

Jasiel Rivero
Jasiel Rivero
#2. Second place goes to an international power forward Jasiel Rivero (204-93, agency: Pro Sports, currently plays in Argentina). He led Boca Juniors to an easy victory against the 18th-ranked Estudiantes Concordia (1-5) 78-60 in the Argentinian La Liga in Thursday night's game. Rivero scored 11 points and added 3 assists. Boca Juniors (4-1) is placed second in the La Liga. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Rivero has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 16.6ppg, 5.6rpg, 1.6apg, 2FGP: 59.6%(28-47), 3FGP: 33.3% and FT: 77.8%. Rivero is in the roster of the Cuban senior national team.

Karel Guzman
Karel Guzman
#3. The Cuban player who performed third best last week abroad was an international shooting guard Karel Guzman (188-95, currently plays in Argentina). He could not help Olimpico de La Banda (1-2) to beat Libertad Sunchales (3-3). Guzman did not have that impressive stats last Thursday. He scored only 3 points in 14 minutes. Olimpico de La Banda lost 73-85 on the road to the higher-ranked (#9) Libertad Sunchales. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. This year Guzman's overall stats are: 9.3ppg, 3.7rpg, 2.7apg, 2FGP: 46.2%, 3FGP: 37.5% and FT: 58.3% in three games he played so far. He is also a member of the Cuban senior national team.

Javier Justiz
Javier Justiz
#4. Center Javier Justiz (205-92, also represented by Pro Sports, currently plays in Spain) managed to help Tecnyconta Zaragoza to win against one of league's weakest teams Gran Canaria (4-9) 71-69 in the Spanish Liga Endesa on Sunday night. Justiz recorded only 4 points. Tecnyconta Zaragoza (7-6) is placed seventh in the Liga Endesa. It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row. Justiz's total stats this season are: 6.7ppg and 4.2rpg. He is also Cuban national team player.

Marvin Cairo
Marvin Cairo
#5. International swingman Marvin Cairo (201-91, currently plays in Argentina) was the major contributor in Ciclista's victory against the fourth-ranked Racing Chivilcoy (9-7) 71-67 in the Argentinian La Liga Argentina (second division) in Friday night's game. Cairo scored 12 points and grabbed 8 rebounds in 22 minutes. Ciclista Juninense (7-9) is placed fifth in South - C.South group. Cairo has relatively good stats this year: 11.6ppg, 6.4rpg and 1.6apg in 11 games. He plays currently for the Cuban national team.

Grismay Paumier
Grismay Paumier
#6. Power forward Grismay Paumier (205-88, currently plays in France) led Saint Chamond to a victory against the league outsider Caen (2-9) 85-77 in the French ProB (second division) on Tuesday night. He recorded 12 points, 8 rebounds and 2 blocks in 28 minutes. Saint Chamond Basket Valle du Gier (7-4) is placed sixth in the ProB. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. This year Paumier has relatively solid stats: 11.1ppg and 6.0rpg in eight games. He is a former international player as he played for the Cuban senior team nine years ago.

The list of other players, who all have Cuban passport but never been selected to any of Cuban national teams:

#1. Howard Sant-Roos (200-F-91, currently plays in Basketball Champions League) led his Greek team AEK to a victory against the eighth-ranked CEZ Nymburk (2-7) 80-76 in the Basketball Champions League in Wednesday night's game. He scored 12 points and grabbed 9 rebounds in 30 minutes. AEK Athens (8-1) is placed first in the Basketball Champions League. It was his team's sixth consecutive victory in a row. This year Sant-Roos averages: 8.7ppg, 3.9rpg, 2.4apg and 1.9spg in seven games he played so far.

#2. Yunio Barrueta (193-F/G-93, agency: Inception Sports, college: Barry, currently plays in France) could not help Sluc Nancy (7-4) in their last game. Despite his good performance Sluc Nancy lost 68-82 on the road to the much lower-ranked (#14) Denain Voltaire. Barrueta was the second best scorer with 11 points. He also added 7 rebounds in 30 minutes. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Barrueta has relatively good stats this year: 10.7ppg and 3.2rpg in 10 games. He has a dual citizenship: Cuban and American. Strangely Barrueta has never played in Cuba.

#3. Marlon Diaz (200-F-98, currently plays in Argentina) was the major contributor in a La Union's victory against the sixth-ranked Petrolero (5-11) crushing them 84-59 in the Argentinian La Liga Argentina (second division) last Friday. Diaz recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points and getting 12 rebounds. He also added and 3 steals. La Union Colon (3-1) is placed fourth in South - C.South group. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Diaz's total stats this season are: 4.0ppg and 4.4rpg.

#4. Yankiel Moreno (189-G-90, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Italy) contributed to a Baltur Cento's victory against the eighth-ranked A.Costa IM (6-7) 81-69 in the Italian Serie A2 (second division) in Sunday night's game. Moreno recorded 6 points. Baltur Cento (5-8) is placed 11th in East group. Moreno's total stats this season are: 6.3ppg, 3.6rpg, 3.3apg and 1.3spg. He is another player who holds two passports: Cuban and Italian. Despite Moreno's Cuban nationality, he previously played for the Italian U18 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Cuban team.
