We bring you last week's top performances from Cubans who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.
#1. This week's number one is an international center
Javier Justiz (205-92, agency:
Pro Sports, currently plays in Spain). He could not help
Zaragoza in their last game. Despite Justiz's very good performance his team lost
81-96 at home to the second-ranked FC Barcelona.
He was the top scorer with 24 points. Justiz also added 9 rebounds in 22 minutes on the court.
This year Justiz averages: 6.9ppg, 4.3rpg and FT: 67.7% in 39 games he played so far.
He is currently a member of the Cuban senior national team.
#2. Second place goes to former international center
Enrique Ramos (202-89, currently plays in Puerto Rico). Ramos was not able to help
Cariduros in their game against Leones (21-15) in the Puerto Rican BSN.
He recorded 8 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.
Cariduros was defeated
108-96 on the road by the leading Leones.
Ramos' overall stats this season are: 8.8ppg, 5.8rpg, 2FGP: 59.6%(130-218) and FT: 48.1%.
He played for the Cuban national team in 2012.
#3. The Cuban player who performed third best last week abroad was an international shooting guard
Karel Guzman (188-95, currently plays in Argentina). Guzman was not able to secure a victory for
Olimpico de La Banda (18-23) in their game against Instituto (28-13) in the Argentinian La Liga. He did not have that impressive stats last Friday.
Guzman scored only 2 points in 10 minutes.
Olimpico de La Banda was crushed
101-68 in Cordoba by the second-ranked Instituto.
It was Olimpico de La Banda's third consecutive loss in a row.
The Semifinals already ended.
This year Guzman's overall stats are: 8.1ppg, 2.4rpg, 2FGP: 50.3%, 3FGP: 32.3% and FT: 65.6% in 45 games.
He is also a member of the Cuban senior national team.
#4. Power forward
Grismay Paumier (205-88, currently plays in France) contributed to a
Saint Chamond's victory against the league leader Entente Orleans 45 (27-10)
81-75 in the French ProB (second division) on Monday night.
Paumier scored 8 points and blocked 3 shots.
Saint Chamond Basket Valle du Gier (21-16) is placed sixth in the ProB.
The Semifinals already ended.
Paumier's total stats this season are: 9.5ppg, 4.7rpg and 1.1bpg.
He used to play for the Cuban national team
back in 2009.
#5. International power forward
Lisvan Valdes (196-88, currently plays in El Salvador) led
Santa Tecla to a victory over the closely-ranked Brujos Izalco (9-5)
75-68 in the Salvadorean Liga MB (second division) in Saturday night's game.
Valdes was MVP of the game. He scored 32 points (!!!), had 4 boards, dished 3 assists and stole 6 balls in 39 minutes.
It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Santa Tecla BC (11-2) is placed first in the Liga MB.
It was his team's fourth consecutive victory in a row.
There are only three games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical.
Valdes has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 22.9ppg, 5.5rpg, 2.4apg and 1.8spg in 13 games.
Valdes plays currently for the Cuban national team.
#6. Power forward
Yuniskel Molina (177-93, currently plays in El Salvador) is a teammate of previously mentioned Lisvan Valdes and both played together in the last Salvadorean Liga MB game.
Molina was the major contributor in a
Santa Tecla's victory against the closely-ranked Brujos Izalco (9-5)
75-68.
He scored 20 points and had 7 steals in 32 minutes.
Molina has relatively good stats this year: 14.4ppg, 5.1rpg, 3.0apg and 2.5spg in 13 games.
He is an international player who is currently on the senior Cuban National Team roster.
#7. International forward
Freddy Marin (202-92, currently plays in Bolivia) couldn't help
AND1 La Paz (0-1) in their last game on Friday. Despite Marin's good performance the fourth-placed AND1 La Paz (0-1) was crushed
93-58 on their home court in La Paz by the higher-ranked Pichincha (#3) in the Group A.
He was the second best scorer with 14 points. Marin also added 4 rebounds. It was his first game for AND1 La Paz this season.
The Regular Season already ended.
Marin is also Cuban national team player.
#8. An experienced power forward
Jordanis Jaca (195-83, currently plays in Bolivia) managed to help Rubair Quillacollo in a victory against the fifth-ranked CAN Oruro (0-1)
84-80 in the Bolivian Libobasque last Thursday.
He recorded only one point in 9 minutes on the court. It was his first game for Rubair this season.
His team is placed second in Group B.
The Regular Season already ended.
Jaca used to play for the Cuban national team
back in 2016.
The list of other players, who all have Cuban passport but never been selected to any of Cuban national teams: #1. Howard Sant-Roos (200-F-91, currently plays in Greece) contributed to a 1-point
AEK's victory against the closely-ranked Peristeri GS (17-9)
83-82 in a derby game in the Greek A1 last Saturday.
Sant-Roos recorded 9 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists.
It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. AEK Athens (18-8) is placed third in the A1.
It was his team's first victory after three consecutive loses.
It's Sant-Roos' first season with the team.
His overall stats this year are: 7.7ppg, 4.4rpg, 2.5apg and 1.2spg.
#2. Ismael Romero (203-C-91, currently plays in Puerto Rico) led
Vaqueros to a 2-point victory over the closely-ranked Indios (18-18)
92-90 in the Puerto Rican BSN on Wednesday night.
Romero was MVP of the game. He had a double-double by scoring 24 points and getting 10 rebounds. Romero also added 4 assists and 3 steals in 34 minutes.
Vaqueros de Bayamon (20-16) is placed third in the BSN.
Romero has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 18.0ppg, 7.0rpg, 2.5apg and 1.4spg in 23 games he played so far.
#3. Dariel Maza (C-91, currently plays in Bolivia) could not help
AND1 La Paz (0-1) in their last game on Friday. Despite his good performance the fourth-placed AND1 La Paz (0-1) was crushed
93-58 at home by the higher-ranked Pichincha (#3) in the Group A.
Maza recorded a double-double by scoring 11 points and getting 12 rebounds. It was his first game for AND1 La Paz this season.
