Here is the weekly review of the top performing Cuban players, who play currently abroad.
#1. This week's number one is an international swingman
Marvin Cairo (201-91, currently plays in Bolivia). He led
Penarol to a victory over the second-ranked CAN Potosi (2-1)
108-101 in the Bolivian Libobasquet in Sunday night's game.
Cairo was MVP of the game. He had a double-double by scoring 49 points and getting 13 rebounds. Cairo also added 3 blocks in 40 minutes on the court.
It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in Group B. Penarol Quillacollo (1-1) is placed third.
His team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical.
Cairo has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 30.5ppg, 8.5rpg, 2.0bpg, 1.5spg, 2FGP: 57.1%, 3FGP: 57.1%(12-21) and FT: 81.8% in two games he played so far.
Ex-Capitalinos Azules de La Habana player is currently a member of the Cuban senior national team.
#2. Second place goes to an international forward
Freddy Marin (202-92, currently plays in Bolivia). He could not help
AND1 La Paz (0-3) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite Marin's very good performance the fifth-placed AND1 La Paz (0-3) was defeated
90-82 at home by the higher-ranked Calero (#3) in the Group A.
He scored 15 points and grabbed 7 rebounds.
Marin's team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial.
Marin has relatively good stats this season: 12.7ppg, 4.7rpg, 2FGP: 47.1%, 3FGP: 16.7%.
He is in the roster of the Cuban senior national team.
#3. The Cuban player who performed third best last week abroad was an experienced former international power forward
Jordanis Jaca (195-83, currently plays in Bolivia). Jaca managed to help Rubair Quillacollo in a victory against the fifth-ranked La Salle CBBA (1-2)
79-60 in the Bolivian Libobasque last Friday.
He scored only 4 points, had 6 rebounds and made 3 blocks in 13 minutes.
Rubair Quillacollo (2-0) is placed first in Group B.
Jaca's team will play only one more game in the Regular Season.
This year Jaca's overall stats are: 2.5ppg, 4.5rpg, 1.5bpg, 2FGP: 33.3% and FT: 25.0% in two games.
Former Tigres de Camaguey starter played for the Cuban national team three years ago.
#4. Power forward
Lisvan Valdes (196-88, currently plays in El Salvador) was the main contributor in a
Santa Tecla's victory against the fifth-ranked San Salvador (8-8)
74-55 in the Salvadorean Liga MB (second division) on Wednesday night.
He was the best player in that game. Valdes recorded 19 points and grabbed 7 rebounds (made all of his six free throws).
Santa Tecla BC (14-2) is placed first in the Liga MB.
It was his team's seventh consecutive victory in a row.
The Regular Season already ended.
This season Valdes has very high stats. He averages: 21.8ppg, 5.5rpg, 2.1apg and 1.6spg.
Valdes is also Cuban national team player.
#5. International power forward
Yuniskel Molina (177-93, currently plays in El Salvador) is a teammate of previously mentioned Lisvan Valdes. But that was another game of his team in Salvadorean Liga MB which we would like to mention.
Molina was the major contributor in a
Santa Tecla's victory against the seventh-ranked Aguila (6-10) crushing them
96-75.
He scored 16 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 20 minutes.
Santa Tecla BC (14-2) is placed first in the Liga MB.
It was his team's seventh consecutive victory in a row.
This year Molina has relatively solid stats: 14.3ppg, 5.3rpg, 2.7apg and 2.5spg in 16 games.
He plays currently for the Cuban national team.
The list of other players, who all have Cuban passport but never been selected to any of Cuban national teams: #1. Alejandro Alvarez (194-F-92, currently plays in Bolivia) could not help
Penarol (1-1) in their last game on Tuesday. Despite Alvarez's very good performance the third-placed Penarol (1-1) was defeated
81-74 on the road by the lower-ranked La Salle CBBA (#5) in the Group B.
He was the top scorer with 27 points. Alvarez also added 6 rebounds.
His team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And that game will be critical.
Alvarez has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 22.5ppg, 8.5rpg and 3.5apg.
#2. Dariel Maza (C-91, currently plays in Bolivia) was not able to help
AND1 La Paz (0-3) in their last game. Despite Maza's very good performance the fifth-placed AND1 La Paz (0-3) was badly defeated
112-95 in Sucre by the second-ranked Amistad in the Group A.
He was the second best scorer with 21 points. Maza also added 5 rebounds in 31 minutes.
So far AND1 La Paz lost all three games in the Regular Season.
His team will play only one more game in the Regular Season. And now that game is very crucial.
Maza has relatively good stats this year: 13.0ppg, 8.0rpg and 2.0apg in three games he played so far.
