Santiago League Round 4: CDP edge GUG by one point- April 1, 2021

GUG - CDP 99-100 The most exciting game of round 4 in the Santiago League ended with only one-point defeat of one of their biggest challengers GUG (1-2) to top-ranked CDP (2-0) 100-99 in the game for the second place. Guard Rigoberto Mendoza (187-92, agency: BMS Sport Agency) fired 29 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Center Eloy Vargas (211-88, college: Kentucky, agency: Duran International) chipped in a double-double by scoring 25 points and 13 rebounds. Four CDP players scored in double figures. Guard Gelvis Solano (185-94, college: Merrimack, agency: BMS Sport Agency) produced 27 points, 9 rebounds and 8 assists and American Jordan Williams (198-92, college: N.Texas) added 25 points and 7 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. CDP maintains second position with 2-0 record behind leader Cupes. Defending champion GUG keeps the third place with two games lost. They share the position with Plaza and CPN. CDP will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. GUG's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Santiago to the arena Plaza. The victory is especially important as it came on the road game in Santiago, where they defeated Sameji (0-2) 109-93. They outrebounded Sameji 44-25 including a 18-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Plaza shot the lights out from three nailing 15 long-distance shots on high 51.7 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of guard Oliver Garcia (188-96) who helped to win the game recording 35 points (!!!), 6 rebounds, 7 assists and 5 steals. American Cameron Lard (206-97, college: Iowa St., agency: BMS Sport Agency) contributed with 9 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners. Four Plaza players scored in double figures. John Christopher replied with 27 points and Brahian Mendez added 19 points in the effort for Sameji. Both coaches tested many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Plaza (1-2) left bottom position moving up to third place, which they share with GUG and CPN. Sameji at the other side still closes the standings with two games lost. Plaza's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Santiago GUG.
