Here is the weekly review of the top performing Dominican Republic players, who play currently abroad.

Sammy Mejia
Sammy Mejia
#1. This week's number one is an experienced former international swingman Sammy Mejia (198-83, college: De Paul, currently plays in Turkey). He led Tofas to a victory over the 11th-ranked Darussafaka (0-1) 97-81 in the Turkish BSL in Sunday night's game. Mejia was MVP of the game. He recorded 27 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 4 assists in 32 minutes on the court. It was his first game for Tofas this season. His team is placed seventh in the BSL. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Mejia has a dual citizenship: Dominican Republic and American. He played for the Dominican Republic senior national team twelve years ago. Strangely Mejia has never played in Dominican Republic.

Gregorio Adon
Gregorio Adon
#2. Second place goes to former U17 international forward Gregorio Adon (198-91, currently plays in Spain). He could not help Quintanar (0-3) in their last game. Despite Adon's very good performance the 16th-placed Quintanar (0-3) lost 82-89 on the road to the higher-ranked (#10) Alcobendas in the Group B. He was the top scorer with 19 points. Adon also added 5 rebounds in 25 minutes. So far Quintanar lost all three games in the Regular Season. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Adon has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 17.7ppg, 5.3rpg, 1.3spg, 3FGP: 46.7%(7-15) and FT: 66.7% in three games he played so far. Adon played for the Dominican Republic U17 national team in 2007.

Rodrigo Madera
Rodrigo Madera
#3. The Dominican Republic player who performed third best last week abroad was former U17 international center Rodrigo Madera (208-90, currently plays in Chile). He contributed to a CD Tinguiririca San Fernando's victory against the sixth-ranked Puerto Montt (1-3) 96-83 in the Chilean Liga Nacional last Sunday. Madera recorded 11 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists. CD Tinguiririca San Fernando (1-3) is placed sixth in Conferencia Centro. They ended the series of three consecutive loses. It's Madera's first season with the team. His overall stats this year are: 5.3ppg, 5.7rpg, 2.3apg. Madera is another player who holds two passports: Dominican Republic and Chilean. He played for the Dominican Republic U17 national team ten years ago.

Jose Cabrera
Jose Cabrera
#4. Power forward Jose Cabrera (206-84, currently plays in Spain) helped Mataro Feimat win their game against the fifth-ranked Cornella (2-1) 58-55 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) last Saturday. Cabrera scored 8 points, had 9 rebounds and made 2 blocks in 35 minutes. Mataro Feimat (3-0) is placed first in Group C-B. So far his team won all three games in the Regular Season. This year Cabrera's overall stats are: 6.0ppg, 6.3rpg and 1.3bpg in three games. He used to play for the Dominican Republic national team back in 2006.

The list of other players, who all have Dominican Republic passport but never been selected to any of Dominican Republic national teams:

#1. Ronald Ramon (183-G-86, college: Pittsburgh, currently plays in Liga SudAmericana) led his Brazilian team Flamengo to a 1-point victory over the closely-ranked San Martin Corrientes (1-2) 76-75 in the Liga Sudamericana last Tuesday. He was the best player in that game. Ramon recorded 21 points. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Clube de Regatas do Flamengo (3-0) is placed first in the Liga Sudamericana. So far his team won all three games in the Preliminary Round. The Preliminary Round already ended in the Liga Sudamericana. Ramon has relatively good stats this season: 11.7ppg, 1.3rpg, 1.3apg and 1.3spg. He has a dual citizenship: Dominican Republic and American. Apparently Ramon has never played in Dominican Republic.

#2. James Feldeine (193-SG-88, college: Quinnipiac, currently plays in ABA League) was the major contributor in a Crvena Zvezda's victory against the closely-ranked Mega Bemax (2-1) 90-80 in the ABA League on Wednesday night. He scored 21 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 36 minutes. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Crvena Zvezda MTS Beograd (3-0) is placed first in the ABA League. So far his team won all three games in the Regular Season. But the season just started, so everything may happen. It's Feldeine's first year with the team. Feldeine has relatively good stats this season: 12.5ppg, 2.5rpg, 2.0apg and 2.0spg in two games he played so far. He is another player who holds two passports: Dominican Republic and American. Apparently Feldeine has never played in Dominican Republic.

#3. He was the best player in that game. Mendoza recorded 22 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Estudiantes Concordia (2-4) is placed fourth in Group A. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. It's Mendoza's first season with the team. He has relatively good stats this year: 15.0ppg, 5.2rpg, 2.3apg and 1.2spg.

#4. Experienced Eulis Baez (201-PF-82, college: W.Illinois, currently plays in Spain) contributed to an easy victory against the tenth-ranked Baskonia (1-2) 100-82 in the Spanish Liga Endesa last Saturday. Baez scored 8 points, had 11 rebounds and dished 3 assists in 25 minutes. Herbalife Gran Canaria (2-0) is placed second in the Liga Endesa. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. It's Baez's sixth year with the team. This season he averages: 9.0ppg, 6.3rpg, 1.7apg and 1.7spg in three games.

#5. M.J. Rhett (206-PF-92, college: Mississippi, currently plays in Liga SudAmericana) is a teammate of previously mentioned Ronald Ramon. But that was another game of his team in Liga Sudamericana which we would like to mention. Rhett contributed to Flamengo's victory against the closely-ranked Cimarrones (2-1) 80-70. He scored 10 points and grabbed 5 rebounds. It was the game of the round between two top 4 ranked teams. Clube de Regatas do Flamengo (3-0) is placed first in the Liga Sudamericana. So far his team won all three games in the Preliminary Round. This season Rhett averages: 6.3ppg and 4.3rpg. He has both American and Dominican Republic nationalities. Rhett used to play for Leones de Santo Domingo in Dominican Republic league.

#6. Sadiel Rojas (197-G/F-89, college: Okla.Wesleyan, currently plays in Spain) was the main contributor in an UCAM Murcia's victory against the closely-ranked Andorra 81-77 in the Spanish Liga Endesa in Sunday night's game. He was the best player in that game. Rojas scored 16 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 25 minutes. This year Rojas averages: 9.0ppg and 2.7rpg in three games. He also holds two passports: Dominican Republic and American. Rojas used to play for Leones de Santo Domingo in Dominican Republic league.

#7. Edgar Sosa (190-PG-88, college: Louisville, currently plays in Australia) could not help New Zealand Breakers (0-1) in their last game on Sunday. Despite his very good performance New Zealand Breakers were defeated 82-71 on the road by the leading Cairns Taipans. Sosa was the second best scorer with 15 points. He also added 3 assists. It was his first game for New Zealand Breakers this season. Sosa holds both American and Dominican Republic passports. He used to play for Leones de Santo Domingo in Dominican Republic league.

#8. Eloy Vargas (211-C-88, agency: Duran International, college: Kentucky, currently plays in France) contributed to a Boulazac Basket's surprising victory against the second-ranked Gravelines-Dunkerque 75-71 in the French ProA on Tuesday night. Vargas recorded 7 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in only 9 minutes. This year Vargas averages: 5.8ppg and 4.3rpg in four games.

#9. Dagoberto Pena (198-F/G-88, college: Marshall, currently plays in Spain) was not able to help Movil Estudiantes in their game against Gipuzkoa in the Spanish Liga Endesa. He scored 5 points. His team was badly defeated by 17 points 92-75. This season Pena averages: 2.5ppg, 1.5rpg and 1.5apg.

#10. Carlos Novas Mateo (197-F-92, agency: Mansfield and Associates, currently plays in Austria) was not able to secure a victory for one of league's weakest teams Raiffeisen Flyers Wels (0-1) in their last game on Friday. Despite his very good performance Raiffeisen Flyers Wels were defeated 82-77 on the opponent's court by the higher-ranked Vienna (#6). Novas Mateo was the top scorer with 17 points. He also added 7 rebounds (made all of his six free throws). It was his first game for Raiffeisen Flyers Wels this season. Novas Mateo has Dominican Republic and Austrian nationalities. Despite his Dominican Republic passport, Novas Mateo previously played for the Austrian U20 national team and is probably not eligible to play for the Dominican Republic team.
