MANUEL GUZMAN

Colegio Los Leones de Quilpue (Liga Nacional) strengthened their roster with addition of experienced 36-year old Dominican power forward Manuel Guzman (204-105kg-82, college: Bemidji State). He played in the summer at Soles de Santo Domingo in LNB league in Dominican Republic. In 16 games he recorded very impressive stats: 15.9ppg, 5.4rpg and 1.6apg. Guzman helped them to win the regular season and make it to the semifinals. Great season indeed as he was awarded Latinbasket.com All-Dominican Rep. TBS Center of the Year and voted to 1st Team and voted to Honorable Mention. He also played for San Carlos (TBS) in Dominican Republic where in 15 games he was fourth best scorer with remarkable 20.2ppg and had 8.4rpg (#3 in the league) and 1.4apg. A very good season in his career as he was awarded Latinbasket.com All-Dominican Rep. TBS Center of the Year and voted to 1st Team and voted to Honorable Mention. Guzman also spent pre-season at El Million (TBS) in Dominican Republic. He contributed to his team winning the regular season and make it to the semifinals. It was a very successful season as he was awarded Latinbasket.com All-Dominican Rep. TBS Center of the Year and voted to 1st Team and voted to Honorable Mention. The other team Guzman played that season for was Soles (also in LNB) in Dominican Rep.. In 16 games he averaged high stats: 15.9ppg, 5.4rpg and 1.6apg. It was a very successful season as he was awarded Latinbasket.com All-Dominican Rep. TBS Center of the Year and voted to 1st Team and voted to Honorable Mention.
Guzman won Dominican Republic La Romana League championship title in 2014.
He represented Dominican Republic at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla (Colombia) this year. Guzman's team got to the Semifinals and his stats at that event were 5 games: 5.0ppg, 1.6rpg.
Guzman is a very experienced player. He has played also professionally in Mexico (Ola Verde, Abejas and Huracanes), Spain, Uruguay (Bohemios), Venezuela (Panteras and Toros), Ecuador (Importadora) and Colombia (Academia).
Guzman is close to retirement age as a player. It may be one of last seasons in his extensive career, which he may end at Los Leones.
Guzman attended Bemidji State until 2006 and it will be his 13th (hopefully lucky) (!!!) season in pro basketball.
The scouts decsribe him following way: Plays in the 4 and 5 positions, is a solid player with great hustle and good rebounding skills, above all at the offensive side. He's a tough defender who doesn't fear contacts. Offensively, has a good touch around the basket and is a good FT shooter.

Colegio Los Leones de Quilpue roster for 2018-2019:

Evandro Arteaga
Manuel Guzman
Eduardo Marechal
Josimar Ayarza
Juan Zanotta
Darrol Jones
Ignacio Carrion
Barham Amor
Elys Guzman
Salvador Olivar
