Jamel Staten
JAMEL STATEN

American Guard Jamel Staten (198-G-83) had a very impressive game in the last round for top-ranked Sameji, receiving a Interperformances Santiago League Player of the Week award for round 5.
The 35-year old player had a double-double of 26 points and 11 rebounds, while his team outclassed CDP (#5, 1-3) with 29-point margin 113-84. It allowed Sameji to take over top position in the Dominican Rep. Santiago League. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. The season is still on an early stage, but Sameji already had a very good start winning all 3 without losing a single one. In the team's last game Staten had a remarkable 57.1% from 2-point range and got four three-pointers out of 7 attempts. He just recently signed at Sameji, being already a very valuable addition to the team. Former Minnesota State University Mankato star has very solid stats this year. Staten is in league's top in points (2nd best: 25.3ppg), rebounds (8th best: 8.3rpg) and averages impressive 56.5% FGP and 41.7% from behind 3-point line.

The second best player in last round's games was 38-year old Kelvin Pena (193-G-80) of GUG. Pena had a very good evening with 25 points, 9 rebounds and 7 assists. Bad luck as GUG lost that game 84-89 to slightly higher-ranked Pueblo Nuevo (#2, 3-1). It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. GUG still maintains its place in the top 3 of the standings, even despite this loss. His team's 2-1 record is not bad at all. Pena is one of the most experienced players at GUG and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players.

Third on the list of top players last round was forward Brayan Martinez (203-F/C-91) of CDP (#5). Martinez scored 12 points and grabbed nineteen rebounds (!!!). Despite Martinez's great performance CDP lost 84-113 to the league's current leader Sameji (#1, 3-0). But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates. CDP can only dream about fighting for top spots in the league. They have rather bad season and 1-3 record places them close to the bottom of the standings. Too bad for Martinez he does not play for a better team. But maybe if he did, his season stats would not be that high. Martinez has individually a great season in Dominican Republic. After only 4 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 11.8rpg (2nd best).

Other top performing players last week:
4. Ronald Tineo) of Pueblo Nuevo - 26 points, 7 rebounds and 3 assists
5. Lenin Rodriguez (G) of Sameji - 26 points and 3 assists
6. Juan Guerrero (201-F-93) of GUG - 20 points, 10 rebounds and 2 assists
7. Nehemias Morillo (196-G-92) of Sameji - 12 points, 6 rebounds and 11 assists
8. Renaldo Dixon (206-C-90) of Pueblo Nuevo - 15 points and 13 rebounds
9. Ivan Johnson (203-C-84) of Sameji - 15 points, 10 rebounds and 3 assists
10. Jaison Pena) of Sameji - 14 points and 2 rebounds

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
