Santiago League is at the halfway of the Second Stage and there are still another 3 rounds left. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The biggest surprise of round 3 in Santiago League took place when GUG (2-1) edged Sameji (2-1) 102-99 on Sunday evening. GUG looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. 26 personal fouls committed by Sameji helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. The best player for the winners was forward Juan Guerrero (201-93) who scored 26 points, 9 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks. Luis-David Montero (203-93, college: South Plains JC) chipped in 15 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Jamel Staten (198-83, college: Minn.St.-Mankato) who recorded 30 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Sameji will play next round against strong Plaza trying to make it back to the top of the standings. It will be a derby game for which supporters look forward to, where their team will travel locally in Santiago to the arena of Plaza. GUG will try to continue on its current victory against Cupes. It will be extra interesting game as Cupes is their local rival from Santiago.
Important game to mention about was the one when Plaza (1-2) saved a 1-point derby victory edging Cupes (1-2) 93-92 in the game for the third place. It was a good game for guard Oliver Garcia (188-96) who saved his team from a defeat with 36 points (!!!) and 4 steals. Jhonatan Araujo contributed with 9 points, 22 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. point guard Jaison Valdez (188-95) answered with 27 points, 6 rebounds, 9 assists and 4 steals for Cupes. Cupes' coach Vladimir Frias rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Plaza's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Santiago Sameji.
