Second-ranked Leona (3-4) gave a tough game to first ranked Santiago (7-2) on Monday. Santiago managed to secure only one-point victory 76-75. However their fans expected easier game. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Tyasia Willis (178-1997, college: Bethel, TN) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 28 points and 10 rebounds and forward Dariana Santos (180-1991, college: Wiley) who added 23 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Santiago's coach Carlinson Torres used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. American guard Kiana Glenn (168-1997, college: Life) responded with 21 points and 5 rebounds. Santiago have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain first position with 7-2 record. Leona at the other side dropped to the third place with four games lost. Santiago are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Panteras (#4) in the next round. Leona will play against the league's second-placed Dragons and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very significant was Dragons' (#3, 4-4) victory against 4th ranked Panteras (2-6) 86-77. The winners were led by American point guard Kristina Puthoff-King (180-1992, college: Richmond) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 22 points, 12 rebounds and 9 assists and Taylor Brown supported her with 24 points and 6 rebounds. Dragons' coach Guillermo Reyes allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even a double-double of 25 points and 12 rebounds by forward Anayelis Garcia (180-2002) did not help to save the game for Panteras. Dragons (4-4) moved-up to second place. Panteras at the other side stay at the bottom position with six games lost. Dragons will play against Leona (#3) in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Panteras will play against the league's leader Santiago and hope to get back on the winning track.
