TSF Round 9: Santiago lose to Panteras- April 1, 2023

Santiago - Panteras 60-69 Top ranked Santiago (7-3) recorded its third loss at the home court on Thursday night. Hosts were defeated by fourth ranked Panteras (3-6) 69-60. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Santiago. The best player for the winners was forward Anayelis Garcia (180-2002) who had a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. Guard Laurybel Geraldino chipped in 20 points and 5 rebounds. Four Panteras players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American Marquisha Harris (180-1993, college: W.Michigan) who recorded a double-double by scoring 18 points and 18 rebounds and the other American import forward Tyasia Willis (178-1997, college: Bethel, TN) added 17 points and 9 rebounds respectively. Panteras maintains fourth place with 3-6 record. Santiago at the other side still keeps top position with three games lost. Panteras are looking forward to face higher ranked Leona (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Santiago will play against the league's second-placed Dragons and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Second ranked Dragons faced 3rd placed Leona. Host Dragons (5-4) defeated guests from (3-5) 100-92. Dragons players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 11 passes made by Leona's players. It was a good game for American point guard Kristina Puthoff-King (180-1992, college: Richmond) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. Her fellow American import point guard Taylor Brown (170-1993, college: GMU) contributed with 28 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Worth to mention Puthoff-King played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. American forward Aaliyah Rice (175-1997, college: Montevallo, agency: Domantay Sports) answered with a double-double by scoring 29 points and 10 rebounds and Odalmis Diaz added 25 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Leona. Five Dragons and four Leona players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Dragons maintains second place with 5-4 record having just three points less than leader Santiago. Leona lost third consecutive game. They keep the third position with five games lost. Dragons will play against league's leader Santiago in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Leona will play against Panteras and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
