Santiago - Panteras 70-69 Fourth-ranked Panteras (4-8) made lots of trouble for first ranked Santiago (9-4) on Wednesday. Santiago managed to secure only one-point victory 70-69. However their fans expected easier game. Santiago outrebounded Panteras 45-33 including 20 on the offensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Santiago made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was American Marquisha Harris (180-1993, college: W.Michigan) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points, 20 rebounds and 5 blocks. Forward Dariana Santos (180-1991, college: Wiley) chipped in 18 points and 6 rebounds. Harris is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. At the other side the best for losing team was American guard Brittany Carter (183-1993, college: Illinois) who recorded a double-double by scoring 25 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists and her fellow American import guard Takisha Jordan (170-1994, college: Tenn Tech) added 13 points respectively. Four Panteras players scored in double figures. Santiago maintains first position with 9-4 record. Panteras at the other side stay at the bottom place with eight games lost. Santiago are looking forward to face league's second-placed Dragons in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Panteras will play against Leona and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Second ranked Dragons faced one of their biggest challengers Leona. Host Dragons (7-5) defeated guests from (4-7) 100-87. Dragons players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. It was a good game for American point guard Kristina Puthoff-King (180-1992, college: Richmond) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists. The other American import point guard Toynetta Johnson (172-1992, college: UWF) contributed with 20 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and 7 steals for the winners. Puthoff-King is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. American forward Aaliyah Rice (175-1997, college: Montevallo, agency: Domantay Sports) replied with 20 points and 9 rebounds and Odalmis Diaz added 20 points and 7 rebounds in the effort for Leona. Five Dragons and four Leona players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Dragons maintains second position with 7-5 record having just three points less than leader Santiago. Leona at the other side keeps the third place with seven games lost. Dragons will play against league's leader Santiago in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Leona will play against Panteras and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
