Cocodrilos de Caracas (SPB) signed 32-year-old Dominican Rep. 203cm small forward Luis Montero (college: South Plains) for the upcoming season. Montero is returning to Caracas, where he previously played. Last summer, he played for Titanes in the LNB league in the Dominican Republic. In 16 games, he averaged 14.4ppg, 8.4rpg, 4.1apg, 1.6spg, and 1.1bpg, helping his team win the league title despite finishing second in the regular season. Montero was named Latinbasket.com All-Dominican Republic League Forward of the Year, made the All-Defensive Team, and was selected to the All-Domestic Players Team. In the previous season, Montero played for Minas (NBB) in the Brazilian league, averaging 9.8ppg, 6.8rpg, 2.7apg, 1.6spg, and 1.0bpg in 21 games. He helped his team reach the Brazilian Super 8 final and was named Latinbasket.com All-Brazilian League Forward of the Year, made the All-
He has tried to make it to the NBA and played in the NBA Pro Summer League in 2016.
Montero represented the Dominican Republic at the FIBA World Cup 2023 Americas Qualifiers three years ago. Montero's team reached the Semifinals, and he averaged over 2 points per game.
He is a very experienced player. Montero has traveled the world during his pro career, playing in nine different countries on three different continents (Asia, Latin America, and North America). He has played professionally in Argentina (San Lorenzo and Platense), Brazil, Colombia (Cafeteros), Lebanon (Antonine), Mexico (Capitanes), Poland, NBA (Detroit Pistons, Miami Heat, and Portland Trail Blazers), and NBA G League (Sioux Falls Skyforce, Santa Cruz Warriors, Stockton Kings, and Grand Rapids Gold).
Among many awards he received, he won the Latinbasket.com All-Venezuelan SPB Player of the Year award in 2024.
He graduated from South Plains College in 2015 and this will be his twelfth (!!!) season in pro basketball. Montero also played for Westchester Community College for one year.
