Defending champions San Carlos remain the team to beat in the 40th Torneo de Baloncesto Superior Femenino del Distrito Nacional, racing out to a perfect start and keeping a firm grip on top spot.
The Cinco Esquinas side moved to 3-0 with a 77-64 win over San Lazaro, the latest in a flawless opening run. In the other game on the card, Mauricio Baez got off the mark for the season in emphatic fashion, routing La Cienaga 77-50 to claim their first victory.
San Carlos had already shown their form earlier in the week, beating La Cienaga 78-62 at the Club Ensanche Luperon. Willy Soriano's team leaned on a potent backcourt that night: Jennifer Jimenez (21 points, five rebounds, six assists) and Melissa Cabral (20 points, six rebounds, five assists) combined for 41, while Yadira Marte posted a double-double of 16 points and 11 rebounds. La Cienaga had no shortage of fight, getting 21 points from Yeliandra Romero and a 15-point, 16-rebound effort from Vanessa Ozuna, but could not keep pace.
After three rounds, San Carlos sit clear at 3-0, ahead of La Cienaga (1-2), Mauricio Baez (1-1) and San Lazaro (0-2). The action continues at the Club Luperon with Mauricio Baez facing San Carlos and San Lazaro meeting La Cienaga.
