National League Round 2: Piratas beat Punto Rojo in the most crucial game of the week - Sep 6, 2018

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

An exciting game was played in Ibarra. Piratas faced Punto Rojo. Host Piratas (6-2) defeated guests from (5-3) 88-77. Piratas made 16-of-19 free shots (84.2 percent) during the game. Piratas outrebounded Punto Rojo 39-28 including a 35-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Venezuelan forward Jhon Romero (199-85) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists. American power forward Willie Readus (201-92, college: Delta St., agency: DTMones) chipped in 28 points and 9 rebounds. American Lenny Daniel (203-87, college: CS Northridge) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds for the guests. Piratas is looking forward to face Guerreros (#3) in Santo Domingo in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Punto Rojo will play on the road against Barcelona in Guayaquil and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Riobamba was also worth to mention about. Iccan (7-1) played at the court of Leones (1-7). Iccan defeated Leones 85-75. Colombian-Venezuelan swingman Cesar Silva (190-81) orchestrated the victory by scoring 25 points and 5 rebounds. Darol Hernandez contributed with 12 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Canadian point guard Alex Johnson (178-88, college: Z*Orangeville A's) replied with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists for Leones. Iccan will play against ABC (#8) in Santo Domingo in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Leones will play on the road against Juvenil in Vinces and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Portviejo was also quite interesting. Barcelona (6-2) played at the court of Portoviejo (3-5). Barcelona managed to secure a 9-point victory 93-84 on Tuesday. Brandon Cataldo had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners. Barcelona's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Jordan Johnson responded with 41 points (!!!), 5 assists and 5 steals. Barcelona will meet at home Punto Rojo (#5) in the next round. Portoviejo will play against Triple E-Uda in Gualaceo and hope to secure a win.

In the last two games of round 2 ABC was defeated by Triple E-Uda in Gualaceo 65-58. Guerreros beat Juvenil at home 83-74.



Triple E-Uda - ABC 65-58

There was a minor upset in Gualaceo where ABC (1-7) was defeated by Triple E-Uda (1-7) 65-58 on Tuesday. Venezuelan power forward Jean Pierre (205-91) had a double-double by scoring 24 points, 12 rebounds and 4 blocks to lead the charge for the winners and American forward Malik Jenkins (201-89) chipped in 16 points and 17 rebounds during the contest. Jenkins is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Triple E-Uda's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Cuban forward Yasmany Fundora (201-92) responded with 19 points and 7 rebounds and South Sudanese center Ajak Magot (211-92, college: Idaho St.) scored 14 points and 9 rebounds. Triple E-Uda will meet at home Portoviejo (#7) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. ABC will play against Iccan and will have a slim chance for a victory.

They outrebounded Leones 41-29 including a 38-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Iccan especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 52.4 percentage. Colombian-Venezuelan swingman Cesar Silva (190-81) orchestrated the victory by scoring 25 points and 5 rebounds. Cuban forward Darol Hernandez (206-89) contributed with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Four Iccan players scored in double figures. Canadian point guard Alex Johnson (178-88, college: Z*Orangeville A's) replied with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 7 rebounds and 10 assists and U.S. Virgin Islands-American forward Jamaal Samuel (206-93, college: La-Monroe, agency: Basket Management Solutions) added 20 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Leones. Iccan will play against ABC (#8) in Santo Domingo in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Leones will play on the road against Juvenil in Vinces and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

No shocking result in a game in Santo Domingo where Guerreros (6-2) defeated Juvenil (4-4) 83-74 on Tuesday. The game was dominated by American players. Swingman Deilvez Yearby (200-87, college: PFW) had a double-double by scoring 30 points and 15 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and guard Charlie Shorter (185-90, college: MidAmerica Ch.) chipped in 30 points and 4 steals during the contest. Guerreros' coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Center Randy Phillips (203-95, college: Radford) responded with 27 points and guard Paul Marigney (191-82, college: St.Mary's, CA) scored 21 points and 5 assists. Guerreros will meet Piratas in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Juvenil will play against Leones (#9) and hope to secure a win.

KB Trepca Mitrovice (Superliga) added to their roster 27-year old American power forward Zach Reynolds (206-109kg-90, college: N.Arizona).
