Vikingos - Punto R. 40-52 Very important is a home loss of third ranked Vikingos (4-4) against fourth ranked Punto R. (4-4) on Friday night. Host Vikingos were defeated by Punto R. in 52-40. Punto R. forced 21 Vikingos turnovers. The former international Marjorie Caicedo (180-90) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 19 points and 16 rebounds. The former international power forward Liliana Angulo (183-90) contributed with 13 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Power forward Nahomi Guzman (178-1) replied with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 13 rebounds and forward Sarahi Valencia (-3) added 4 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the effort for Vikingos. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Punto R. moved-up to third place, which they share with defeated Vikingos. Vikingos lost third consecutive game. Punto R. will play against Viejo W. (#5) in the next round. Vikingos will play against Santa ES and hope to get back on the winning track. Second ranked Los Andes SM (7-1) played at the court of 5th ranked Viejo W. (2-6). Los Andes SM smashed Viejo W. 70-48. Los Andes SM held Viejo W. to an opponent 24.7 percent shooting from the field compared to 35.6 percent accuracy of the winners. The winners were led by the former international guard Doris Lasso (164-93) who scored that evening 15 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals and Ana Mora (169-99) supported her with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Even 9 points and 19 rebounds by forward Daniela Camacho (177-96) did not help to save the game for Viejo W.. Kimberly Vera (-94) added 9 points and 7 rebounds for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Los Andes SM have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 7-1 record behind leader La Perla. Viejo W. at the other side keeps the fifth place with six games lost. Los Andes SM's next round opponent will be Henko (#6). Viejo W. will play against Punto R. and it may be a tough game between close rivals. Visitors were defeated by Henko 58-45. They held UDJ to an opponent 20.7 percent shooting from the field compared to 36.8 percent accuracy of the winners. Henko had a 41-27 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Henko made 8 blocks. The best player for the winners was the former international Maria Carpio (178-93) who had a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. Center Erika Cardenas (-0) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 14 rebounds. Four Henko players scored in double figures. Power forward Lucia Garrido (-92) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points and 14 rebounds and Fernanda Garcia (-95) added 10 points and 11 rebounds respectively for the guests. UDJ's coach Raul Vilatuna rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Henko (2-6) moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Viejo W. UDJ at the other side dropped to the seventh position with one game lost. Henko is looking forward to face league's second-placed Los Andes SM in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. This time they crushed bottom-ranked Santa ES (0-8) 82-42 in Guayaquil. La Perla dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Santa ES's 26. La Perla forced 28 Santa ES turnovers and outrebounded them 52-29 including a 37-22 advantage in defensive rebounds. Worth to mention a quality performance of Noelia Moran (-2) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 20 points and 12 rebounds and center Samy Bacilio (180-3) who added 17 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. La Perla's coach Miguel Salvitelli felt very confident using 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Center Adamarys Vivar (-3) responded with 11 points and Belen Mackliff (-4) scored 8 points and 5 rebounds. La Perla (8-0) have an impressive eight-game winning streak. They maintain first position with a perfect record of 8 victories in a row. Loser Santa ES still closes the standings with eight games lost. La Perla will meet UDJ (#7) in the next round where they are favorite. Santa ES will play against Vikingos and hopes to get finally their first victory.
