Liga Desarrollo Round 9: La Perla defeat UDJ

Here is the last round review presented by LBM Management.

The most crucial game of the last round was the first loss of UDJ (1-1) in Quininde on Saturday night. Hosts were rolled over by La Perla (9-0) 66-43. La Perla held UDJ to an opponent 23.1 percent shooting from the field compared to 36.8 percent accuracy of the winners. La Perla forced 19 UDJ turnovers and outrebounded them 50-34 including a 34-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. 30 personal fouls committed by UDJ helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a good game for center Samy Bacilio (180-3) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds. Noelia Moran (-2) contributed with 12 points and 12 rebounds for the winners. Power forward Lucia Garrido (-92) answered with 8 points and 10 rebounds for UDJ. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated La Perla have an impressive series of nine victories in a row. They maintain first place with 9-0 record. UDJ at the other side dropped to the seventh position with one game lost. La Perla are looking forward to face league's second-placed Los Andes SM in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. UDJ will play against Vikingos (#4) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that the loss was just an accident.
Bottom-ranked Santa ES is still unable to win any game. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their ninth consecutive match to fourth ranked Vikingos (5-4) 69-59. Power forward Nahomi Guzman (178-1) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 12 rebounds for the winners and Enaim Paredes chipped in 14 points (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). Vikingos' coach used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was center Adamarys Vivar (-3) with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. Vikingos moved-up to third place, which they share with Punto R. Santa ES lost their ninth game in a row. They still close the standings with nine games lost. Vikingos will play against UDJ (#7) in Quininde in the next round. Santa ES will play against Viejo W. and hopes to get finally their first victory.

In the last two games of round 9 Viejo W. was beaten by Punto R. on the road 52-40. Los Andes SM won against Henko on its own court 67-49.

Punto R. - Viejo W. 52-40

No shocking result in a game when third ranked Punto R. (5-4) beat at home 5th ranked Viejo W. (2-7) 52-40. Punto R. held Viejo W. to an opponent 21.9 percent shooting from the field compared to 36.8 percent accuracy of the winners. Punto R. had a 44-32 advantage in offensive rebounds. The former international Marjorie Caicedo (180-90) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 18 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners and the former international power forward Liliana Angulo (183-90) chipped in 19 points and 5 rebounds. Punto R.'s coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was forward Emily Gonzalez (-6) with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 13 rebounds and forward Daniela Camacho (177-96) scored 8 points and 10 rebounds. Punto R. maintains third place with 5-4 record having four points less than leader La Perla, which they share with Vikingos. Viejo W. lost their third game in a row. They keep the fifth position with seven games lost. They share it with Henko. Punto R. will play against Henko (#6) in the next round. Viejo W. will play against Santa ES and hopes to get back on the winning track.

Los Andes SM - Henko 67-49

Very expected game when 6th ranked Henko (2-7) lost on the road to second ranked Los Andes SM (8-1) 67-49. Los Andes SM outrebounded Henko 54-35 including a 39-26 advantage in defensive rebounds. The former international guard Doris Lasso (164-93) stepped up and scored 17 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners and Joselyn Lopez (-1) chipped in 14 points and 9 rebounds. Los Andes SM's coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. The best for the losing side was the former international Maria Carpio (178-93) with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds and guard Sthefany Narvaez (168-1) scored 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists. The victory was the eighth consecutive win for Los Andes SM. They maintain second place with 8-1 record behind leader La Perla. Henko at the other side dropped to the fifth position with seven games lost. They share it with Viejo W.. Los Andes SM will play against league's leader La Perla in Guayaquil in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Henko will play against Punto R. (#3) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
