American Guard Vince Toftness (188-G-97) put on an amazing game in the last round for second-ranked Manabi, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 2.
The 24-year old player was the main contributor (24 points, eight rebounds and two assists) to his team's victory, helping them to beat Guerreros (#3, 1-2) 80-71. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Manabi was forced-out from the top positions in Ecuadorian National League. They would have been even better if they hadn't lost that single game earlier this season. Manabi will need more victories to improve their 2-1 record. Toftness turned to be Manabi's top player in his first season with the team. Former Ecclesia College star has very solid stats this year. Toftness is league's best scorer averaging so far 24.3ppg. Toftness is in league's top in rebounds (4th best: 8.3rpg), assists (4th best: 2.0apg) and averages impressive 2.7spg,61.5% FGP and 43.5% from behind 3-point line.
The second best player in last round's games was 18-year old Abrahan Barahona (03) of league's leader Santa Maria. Barahona had a very good evening with a double-double of 18 points and 14 rebounds. Of course he led Santa Maria to another comfortable win outscoring Triple E-Uda (0-3) 69-43. A very good start of the season for his team, which won so far all 3 games without any defeat. Barahona is a newcomer at Santa Maria, but is already one of team's top players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 19.3ppg (#2). He also registered 8.0 boards per game.
Third on the list of top players last round was center Michael Torres (C-02) of Guerreros (#3). Torres scored 17 points and grabbed sixteen rebounds (!!!). Despite Torres' great performance Guerreros lost 71-80 to #2 ranked Manabi. But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The chances of Guerreros not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 2 games, recording just one victories. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Torres could try to bring Guerreros' a little bit higher in the standings. Torres has individually a great season in Ecuador. After only 3 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 11.0rpg (#1 in league).
Other top performing players last week:
4. Martin Martinez (182-PG-95) of Santa Maria - 12 points, 4 rebounds and 8 assists
5. Telvin Gabriel (198-F-94) of Manabi - 12 points, 8 rebounds and 2 assists

7. Neudy Reyes (86) of Guerreros - 18 points and 10 rebounds

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
