Martin Martinez
Former international Point guard Martin Martinez (182-PG-95) put on an extraordinary performance in the last round for league's leader Santa Maria and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 3.
The 26-year old playmaker recorded a triple-double of 19 points adding also ten rebounds and twelve assists, while his team crushed Manabi (#2, 2-1) with 24-point margin 93-69. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed Santa Maria to jump to the first place in the Ecuadorian National League. They maintain a perfect record without any lost game in the league. The season is still on an early stage, but Santa Maria already had a very good start winning all 3 without losing a single one. In the team's last game Martinez had a remarkable 63.6% from 2-point range. He turned to be Santa Maria's top player in his first season with the team. Martinez has impressive league stats. He is in league's top in points (6th best: 14.7ppg), rebounds (9th best: 6.0rpg) and averages solid 3.0spg and 68.2% FGP.
The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was another Santa Maria's star - 18-year old Abrahan Barahona (03). Barahona impressed basketball fans with 35 points and 6 rebounds. Of course together with Martinez he helped Santa Maria with another comfortable win outscoring Manabi (2-1) 93-69. A very good start of the season for his team, which won so far all 3 games without any defeat. Barahona is a newcomer at Santa Maria and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 19.3ppg (#2). He also registered 8.0 boards per game.
The third best performed player last round was Michael Torres (C-02) of Guerreros (#3). Torres scored 15 points and grabbed twelve rebounds (!!!). He was a key player of Guerreros, leading his team to a 82-56 easy win against #4 ranked Triple E-Uda in a game of the week. The chances of Guerreros not to end season at such low position in the league, however are less than slim as they have already lost 2 games, recording just one victory. With bigger assistance of his teammates, Torres could try to bring Guerreros' a little bit higher in the standings. Torres has individually a great season in Ecuador. After only 3 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in rebounds with 11.0rpg (#1 in league).
Other top performing players last week:
4. Milton Romo (PG-90) of Triple E-Uda - 14 points, 15 rebounds and 3 assists
5. Telvin Gabriel (198-F-94) of Manabi - 16 points and 11 rebounds

The Player of the week is selected based on efficiency calculation, but also including game result, importance of the game, if played recorded double-double/triple-double, etc.
The efficiency formula is a combination of various formulas used by different basketball organizations/leagues. We got involved many basketball scouts and journalists to assure it's accuracy.
The formula: 1.5*PTS + 3* (REB+AST+ST+BL-TO) - 2*BSAG - 4*PF + 3*PFRV + 4* (2FGPM+3FGPM) + 1.5*FTM - 3* (2FGPA-2FGPM) - 3* (3FGPA-3FGPM) - (FTA-FTM)
